Yesterday, a user was insulting another female member here. The moderator claimed they "can't issue a penalty because they're on vacation"
Today, that exact same user is insulting me.

How much longer will we tolerate users attacking one another like this?
Is the moderator refusing to take action because they're on vacation, or is it simply because they don't want to—perhaps since they're a landlord just like him?
As far as I know, the tourism board has two moderators; where is the second one if the first is away on vacation?

John, I already mentioned over on the Tourism board that I'm on vacation—plus Air Canada had some temporary issues—so since I can't really moderate properly through Tapatalk right now, I told you to just chill out. But apparently, you didn't listen...
Anyway, the Tourism subforum is actually one of the most up-to-date ones here. It doesn't usually have any drama; the members know I’ll always jump in and handle things once I explain I just can't do it this second.

Sandra Brown18 said:John, I already mentioned over in the Tourism subforum that I’m on vacation (plus Air Canada was temporarily grounded), and since my moderation tools are limited while using Tapatalk, I can't issue a ban right this second. I asked for some patience, but apparently, that wasn't enough for you.
Actually, the Tourism PDF is our most active section and rarely has issues; the members know I always step up and fulfill my duties once I explain why I can't react instantly.

I would have been happy to wait if they had just stayed focused on insulting another member, but today they turned their insults toward me as well. Since there were two separate instances of harassment, I felt compelled to report it here.

I am perfectly satisfied with how you moderate and have zero complaints about your work, so please don't take this report personally. I simply reported the situation because they took advantage of your absence to continue the verbal abuse.

Hope I’m allowed to jump in here...
I was going to comment on the moderation earlier, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Now that John has opened this thread, I’ll just say it... the moderation around here is anything but clear or high-quality.
Every single thread is just a mess; you can't even go into a topic hoping to actually read something relevant to the title.
To top it off, even the moderators get caught up in the off-topic chatter.
Insults happen all the time, they're constant, and nobody does anything about them. I reported a post like 10 or 15 days ago, but nothing happened... we've got someone who constantly insults, accuses, makes things up, lies, and treats people like absolute garbage, and they've been getting away with it for way too long.
Today, she actually turned on me. She dropped some really nasty personal insults (even though I'm clearly more knowledgeable about categorization, and I even linked her data showing a studio could be for 2-4 people—but instead of listening, she just attacked me). Not long ago, she called me mean, accused me of stealing toilet paper from rentals, called me stupid, and stuff like that. (Too bad the search function isn't working so I could prove it).
The post was deleted, unfortunately. Honestly, it would've been better if it stayed up so everyone could see the red flag and realize what kind of person she really is.
She also started several different threads when she probably could have just kept her thoughts in one place.
A little more effort and basic decency from the mods wouldn't hurt.
And... I agree with John. If one mod is on vacation and the other is tied up, you shouldn't let one person run wild and bully others. Someone should be stepped in, even if they only have minor authority, just to call out people like that. (Sorry, but after being hit with all those insults, I don't think she deserves any other description).

Everyone is entitled to delete their own posts within the allotted timeframe. That includes this particular user.

For technical reasons, no one can have fewer permissions than a moderator. They need the ability to review deleted content, check reports, and ultimately issue warnings or bans. Generally speaking, if people realize there are no consequences following a warning, they tend to ignore them. Often, they ignore them even when they know there will be...

Personal attacks aren't allowed here. Just because someone insulted you elsewhere doesn't justify hitting back on this platform. And an "I'm sorry, but..." doesn't make it any better.

If the moderators are unavailable, they will coordinate with the site's super-moderators and the lead administrator to handle things.
