Laptop won't turn on

Got a situation with my laptop. For a while, it would only boot in Safe Mode, but after I ran a disk check to fix things up, it actually worked fine for about a month. Then, over the last ten days, it just completely died on me. I managed to get it to power on twice, but both times it shut down within a minute. Usually, you can hear the fan spinning up at first, then the screen just goes black—the machine seems to be running in the background, but nothing happens no matter how long I wait. Any idea what's going on? Is this a CPU issue, some other hardware failure, or maybe just a nasty virus? Thanks in advance

Well, if things run fine in Safe Mode but the standard macOS startup keeps failing, then you’re likely looking at an issue within the OS itself. To start troubleshooting, I'd suggest booting from a DVD or a USB drive containing the version of macOS you want to install—that way, you can see if a completely fresh installation actually works...

That used to be the case. Now I can't even get into Safe Mode. It just hangs at 99% during startup, every single time.

Is it actually possible to boot from an installation CD for macOS? You might want to give them a shot and try a full reinstallation
