Some laptop keys aren't working

So, I'm dealing with an HP laptop here.
Out of nowhere, a bunch of my keys just stopped working—specifically e, t, u, i, o, plus the 8 and 5 on the number pad. Everything else seems fine, though.
To make things even weirder, the laptop keeps spamming asterisks like crazy even when I'm not touching anything.
Anyone have any clues what's going on or how I can fix this?

Any chance you spilled something on it? Water, soda, coffee, beer...

Try resetting the BIOS once more

Mine isn't working either.

It just started happening out of nowhere... I definitely didn't spill anything on it.
The keys that are totally dead: g, h (including when I use Shift), the up arrow, the 0 and 1 on the number pad, and it looks like Esc is gone too. Even Ctrl+Alt+Del isn't responding, so I can't even get into Task Manager.
I've been stuck using the on-screen keyboard just to type...
Is there anything I should be doing with the BIOS?? Or anything else, really? I just want it to work again. 😢
I already tried running an antivirus scan, used CCleaner, and ran Malwarebytes, but nothing worked. I even tried a system restore, but no luck there either.

edit: I went ahead and updated the BIOS—still hasn't fixed the problem.

It sounds like a hardware issue to me, honestly; you probably just need to swap out the keyboard.
