Hey there!
Woke up yesterday morning with this swollen thumb—specifically right around the base of the thumb and the fleshy part of my palm. It’s all swollen, red, and just hurts like hell. I ended up heading over to the Mayo Clinic last night because the pain wouldn't let up. They told me it looks like gout, so they put me on some Indomethacin, told me to rest, and said I should get bloodwork done today. Well, I got the labs back, and apparently, it doesn't look like gout, though my CRP is right on the edge. I have no clue what's going on, but it feels exactly the same today. I didn't trip or twist my hand or anything, so is it possible I just strained something during my workout and caused this kind of swelling and pain? (I can't even bend my thumb right now). Or could it still be gout even if my uric acid levels aren't elevated?

Help, anyone had something similar?

Yesterday morning, I woke up with this swollen big toe—specifically around the joint and the pad of my foot. It’s red, puffy, and hurts like crazy. Since it wasn't letting up, I headed over to the local urgent care last night. They suspected gout and handed me some Indomethacin, telling me to rest up and head to a lab today. Well, I got my bloodwork done, and they aren't pointing toward gout, though my CRP is right on the edge. I have no clue what’s going on, but it feels just as bad today. I didn't trip or twist my ankle, but is it possible I strained something during my workout that caused this kind of swelling and pain (I can't even bend the toe)? Or could it still be gout even if my uric acid levels aren't elevated?

Help, any experiences?

It sounds more like a mechanical injury from working out that you didn't notice because you were already warmed up.
Did they do an X-ray on your foot?
In any case, some Ibuprofen should help ease the discomfort.

Ibuprofen should help ease the pain, regardless.

They didn't X-ray my foot... maybe I should head over to Trauma?

I would, especially since the blood work doesn't show any signs of gout.
It’s more likely you just strained a ligament and caused some inflammation. Taking some Ibuprofen should do the trick.

So, I went back for a follow-up today because this pain just won't quit on me. I've got an X-ray scheduled for tomorrow, though the doctors aren't leaning towards anything being broken; they're thinking it might just be some nasty tendon inflammation instead.
