My Dell UltraSharp monitor was being a complete pain... I had to cycle the power like a hundred times just to get it to boot up once. I eventually decided to swap out the capacitors, went a bit heavier on the specs this time, and it actually started working—it’s still running, technically—but now the entire screen is just solid white. Anyone ever dealt with this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Old caps were 3 pieces at 25v/470 uF, swapped them for 3 pieces at 35v/1000uF.

Quick update: The monitor is actually working again, which means it was fine for two days before this happened. I wonder... could it be an overheating issue?

Why'd you swap out the 470uF for a 1000uF? I guess maybe just try sticking with the 470uF if nothing else fried on you.

I actually checked quite a few forums before I decided to swap out the capacitors. My plan was to bump up both the voltage and the uF rating—as long as the capacitance isn't lower than the original specs, right? I figured going slightly higher would just mean they'd last longer... or so I thought. Before I did this, the monitor was acting crazy; it would cycle on and off at least fifty times before finally catching. It felt like it wouldn't even attempt to work until those capacitors fully charged up and warmed through. Anyway, I’ve got it hooked up at my place now, and it’s been running fine for a few hours... everything seems solid. I just can't wrap my head around why the screen used to go completely white like that.

Go ahead and laugh, but doubling the capacity isn't exactly the smartest move here. You're probably better off sticking with a 470uF, and you can grab the 35V version if it actually fits—which, I guess, it should.

It is entirely possible that you inadvertently shifted the LVDS cable during the disassembly process, which may be causing the panel to intermittently lose power or its differential signals; I would suggest that you reconnect it securely.
