Hey everyone, can someone please help me out with a headache I'm having with a newer graphics card?
So, here's the deal: I've got this Dell XPS 17, and the old Nvidia geforce gtx 550 m finally kicked the bucket on me. I went ahead and picked up an Nvidia geforce gtx 660 m to swap in, got it installed, and... well, now things are getting weird. I could only actually get the drivers to stick by using some kind of driver solution pack because whenever I try to run the standard driver straight from the Nvidia website, it acts like the card doesn't even exist. The BIOS sees the 660m just fine, but when I try to install any modern driver, I just get hit with that annoying error message saying the hardware isn't compatible with the software. Right now, I'm stuck running Nvidia driver 340.46. It works, and the system recognizes the card, but I'd really love to move up to something more recent. I've spent way too much time watching YouTube tutorials on this, but honestly, it’s all just a massive blur of technical jargon that makes zero sense to me. Does anyone here actually know what they're doing and would be willing to walk me through how to properly upgrade these drivers?
Thanks in advance

Have you tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults or perhaps performing a BIOS update? Upgrading a laptop's GPU isn't exactly standard procedure, so you might be running into some compatibility issues here:

No more reference drivers

It turns out reference drivers don’t work with the new GPU. Nvidia’s drivers actually check hardware signatures before allowing installs. Drivers, from here on out, can only be obtained from Dell.

I already bumped the BIOS up to the latest version and it’s still acting up, no luck.
