So I'm looking to swap out my current rig. Any chance someone could drop some recommendations for around $6k? If it needs to go a little over, I guess that's fine too.
It’s not really for gaming—though it should probably handle most titles just fine right now—but more for other stuff that eats up RAM and CPU rather than GPU power. So, if it makes sense, I'm totally down to sacrifice a bit of graphics performance to get a beefier processor.
Also, I definitely need an SSD. Ideally something bigger than those tiny 120GB ones you see everywhere, if I'm remembering correctly.
Just looking for the full tower/setup, nothing else.
Doesn't have to be from one single shop; I don't mind mixing and matching parts from Amazon or Newegg since I haven't decided where I'm actually building it yet.
Oh, and I personally prefer an Intel/NVIDIA combo.
Thanks.

It doesn't really have a specific purpose; it's just a home PC, nothing for work purposes
First off, I'm assuming we're talking Intel/Nvidia, and second, maybe somewhere like Best Buy?

Honestly, pick whichever one you want. You don't even need 16GB of RAM; 8GB will get the job done just fine.

You can't overclock Intel, but you can with AMD... the GPU is the same regardless, and the rest of the build is basically identical.
The performance is pretty much neck and neck.

The GPU isn't quite as powerful as a 960, I suppose, but you're getting a better SSD with a longer warranty, a larger hard drive, and a much higher quality power supply here.

1 x Intel CPU desktop Core i5-4460 (3.2GHz, 6MB,LGA1150) box
1 x Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti 2GB DDR5, 128bit, Dual DVI, 2xHDMI, PCI-E 3.0
1 x HyperX Fury 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 CL10
1 x Samsung 250GB 850 EVO Basic SSD
1 x Toshiba 2TB, 7200rpm, 64MB HDD
1 x EVGA 500 W, 80+ Gold
1 x Asrock Intel 1150 Socket B85 ANNIVERSARY Chipset MB
1 x Zalman Z1, USB3.0 black, 2x120mm

$2011

performance-wise, they're pretty much in the same ballpark.

it's easy enough to just add more RAM later..
i'm not planning on overclocking, I just want a GPU that won't bottleneck the rest, but honestly, I haven't played a game in years so I don't really need it either
I prefer Intel, so I guess I'm leaning toward the first option

Amy Vaughn12, I don't really need a bigger hard drive, though I wouldn't say no to a longer warranty 😁

thanks, i'll probably buy something in a week or two, but I'm curious what I should be looking for
just out of curiosity, does it make sense to grab a beefier processor like an i7 if I have an extra $150 in the budget?

I'm not planning on overclocking anything. As long as the GPU isn't bottlenecking the rest, I'm good. Honestly, I haven't even touched a video game in years, so I don't really need much anyway.
I've always preferred Intel, so the first option looks better to me.

@Amy Vaughn12, I don't actually need a bigger hard drive. But hey, I won't say no to a longer warranty. 😁

Thanks. I'll probably be buying this in a few weeks, but I want to know what to look for.

No point, especially if you aren't using that PC to make money.
