No, it's a reflective DDoS. They "shut down" the forum and then "bring it back up," but when they do, there's a period where you can't connect to the database, which triggers the System Error. 😁

Don't overthink it. It won't take two or three hours to stabilize. 😁 😁

I’m not sure how much you actually know, but this forum server has been the subject of internal jokes for ages now. You already know that hardly anyone even bothers to react to these pathetic little glitches.

To be honest, these System Errors aren't anything out of the ordinary; we've dealt with much worse, more prolonged outages in the past. It’s highly likely the sysadmins just start their workday like this. 🙂
And if the entire day passes with nothing but errors, they probably just head home with 🙏

There was even a suggestion once that we all chip in via a donation fund to buy a new server and finally let poor old Chip retire. Unfortunately, that idea never really gained any traction. So, I suppose we should just enjoy things while the server stays upright and doesn't turn into 🙂

Lately, I’ve been running into a System Error almost every single day, and today was no exception—it felt like the whole site just went dark for a few hours. ^^ I can't help but wonder if this forum is headed for the same slow, messy decline we saw with those old Yahoo! message boards.

Maybe don't spend all day refreshing the forum, otherwise you might not notice when things actually go down. You'd probably have more fun heading over to the local YMCA instead. 😳 ☕

Every single server starts screaming under pressure here and there, but they usually manage to reboot without much of a fuss. 😳 I'm well aware of how that goes. 😬
