Hey,
Picked up a Dell UltraSharp monitor last week. Got a quick question—whenever I turn the thing off, there’s this high-pitched whining sound. It’s not exactly deafening, but it’s definitely there and gets annoying sometimes. Is this some kind of defect, and is there actually a fix for it? Weirdly enough, if I unplug the monitor from the wall (even though it's already "off" with the blue light on) and then plug it back in, the noise disappears instantly. So, I'm wondering—is this a hardware issue that needs a repair shop, or am I just dealing with some weird interference? Should I be worried about the monitor dying or what?

Thanks for the help,
best,
Andrew.

Thanks a ton! I read through it, but now I’m stuck—is this actually worth taking in for repair? The buzzing doesn't even stop when the volume is muted. I mean, it’s only there when it's off; once it's running, it's dead silent. If this is just how it is, fine, I'll live with it. But I honestly don't know if I should lug it to the service center or not. It’s kind of like a dead pixel—it doesn't ruin everything, but once you notice it, it drives you crazy. Just... yeah.

All I care about is that this thing doesn't die on me. If it’s just normal behavior, fine—whatever. But if it’s a sign that something is about to crap out, then yeah, that’s a problem. Honestly, with all the background noise—wind, the fridge, blah blah blah—I don't even notice it. You really only hear it if you get right up in its face. Plus, if I unplug it and plug it back in, the buzzing stops, even though the power is still on.

I get it, man. It’s a total pain in the ass having to lug a monitor around and wait forever for someone to actually fix it... especially in this brutal heat. I wouldn't want to deal with that either. But clearly, something is definitely broken. You don't have to rush out today, just don't let it drag on—you know how it goes, "I'll do it tomorrow," then six months pass, the warranty expires, and then the whole thing completely dies on you. Electronics always seem to give up the ghost right after the coverage runs out.
