It looks like it could actually be a solid movie, especially if you're into this kind of gritty subject matter. The cast is pretty strong too—Johnny Depp, Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon...
Johnny Depp undergoes an interesting transformation here. Personally, I'm not feeling it; he used to pull off much better roles than this.

After seeing him in Blow and Donnie Brasco, Johnny Depp is diving back into a Mafia Filmic, and honestly, based on the trailer so far, it looks absolutely incredible.

Looks pretty interesting. Finally, a chance for Johnny Depp to show everyone just how good an actor he really is.

Killer movie, and Johnny Depp was absolutely killing it...

I expected way more from this, honestly. There were stretches where it felt pretty tedious. Don't get me wrong, the acting was top-tier, but the script? Weak. The directing is solid enough, but we’ve seen this story a thousand times before—there’s nothing here that makes it stand out other than the stellar performances. And that soundtrack? It drives me nuts; you can tell immediately when they're trying too hard to force a romantic moment.

Johnny Depp is excellent, but the movie is boring.

This is basically a second-rate Martin Scorsese.
Honestly, everything about the movie works—it’s a solid, watchable, and genuinely fun flick—except for that nagging feeling that you've seen this all before, just done better elsewhere. Johnny Depp is so good here that if he were playing this role in a different era, the character would’ve ended up being an absolute cult icon.

I get what you're saying, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the damn thing. Personally, I thought it was a solid flick. I mean, hell, it’s about as mafia as it gets 😁
Johnny Depp was incredible, and man, I really hope he makes a comeback to those wild, crazy roles of his.

I walked away feeling like this was essentially part of a series—almost like a fourth installment following Donnie Brasco, Blow, and Carlito's Way—though I felt Black Mass was a bit stretched out and lacked the punch of Carlito. Even though Johnny Depp delivers a top-tier performance with some truly standout moments, the pacing just didn't quite click for me. At times, the movie drags, and then it suddenly picks up speed only to leave half the story feeling unfinished, almost as if it were a re-edit rushed through in the final stages.

Because the cast is so incredible and they truly nailed their roles, I’d give it a 7/10, even if that feels a little generous given how naive the plot can be.

For me, nothing beats that dinner scene where they show the recipe—and then later, when he's upstairs with her. Honestly, Craig Gillespie absolutely crushed it here and in The Gift; he seriously deserves an Oscar nod for this

It's a shame that scene was already spoiled in the trailer. I'm with you on Craig Gillespie, but the movie just feels like it's missing something essential.

I think it just lacks focus. I haven't actually seen the > yet, so I can't say for sure—but if they already gave away the best part there, then yeah, total >.

Not bad. Not great either. It’s decent, but it isn’t GREAT. Putting Depp aside for a second—no, he isn't masterful here. He's fine, but just like the rest of the movie, it isn't truly GREAT. Just pure mannerism. If they were aiming for horror, they missed. On the flip side, the supporting cast is excellent. Take Rory Cochrane, for example. Good-god-damn. That’s how you do it. Saying everything without saying a word, just through his eyes. Generally speaking, why hasn't he had a bigger career? Like a few respected commenters on this thread pointed out, the issue is this: it feels derivative. And what we've already seen was much better.
