Based on that legendary novel by Jane Doe, this film follows the life of the incredible Professor John Doe—a kind-hearted eccentric, a total hedonist, and a one-of-a-kind educator. His former student, Mihailo Petrović-Alas, once described him as the most original professor of the 19th century. It’s also a story about an extraordinary group of seniors at Stuyvesant High School, including Mihailo Petrović-Alas, Jovan Cvijić, Pavle Popović, Jaša Prodanović, Milorad Mitrović, Milutin K. Dragutinović, Ljubomir Stojanović, and several others. These kids grew up to become the literal faces of an era—academics, professors, cabinet members, politicians, and other major figures. They were a class for the ages, truly unparalleled... a class that defines history itself. Bursting with that unstoppable youthful energy, they stepped into adulthood with a stride that basically defies time.

Cast:
Brad Pitt, Ljubomir Bulajić, Aleksandar Radojičić, Mateja Popović, Uroš Jakovljević, Nikola Ranđelović, Davor Perunović, Mladen Sovilj, Branimir Brstina, Predrag Ejdus, Dragan Jovanović, Zoran Cvijanović, George Clooney, Vojin Ćetković, and Aleksandar Berček playing Professor John Doe.

Directed by: Zdravko Šotra

This is actually a new adaptation. In the original version from 1971, Pavle Vujisic played Professor John Doe, and you even included an IMDb link for that old one. 🙂

We'll just have to wait and see what Zdravko Šotra makes of it.

Man, when I was a kid, that old version just stuck in my head as this absolute classic—super goofy in that perfect high school comedy kind of way. So, honestly? I’m pretty skeptical about this new one. Usually, remakes just fall flat, especially when you're trying to redo a comedy. Plus, you've got Zdravko Šotra jumping into every single period piece lately, always trying to make things feel all heavy and tragic.

Pavle Vujisić is a total legend in this role, though. I mean, the guy is a legend everywhere you look.🙂

Check out this clip from 1971

I haven't actually sat down to revisit the old version, but there’s something about this direction that really pulls me in, and honestly, I am counting down the days until the new one drops! 🎉

The first reviews aren't anything to write home about. Though, I have to say, this YouTube trailer looks pretty promising.
Just keep in mind that lately, Zdravko Šotra has been churning out some pretty terrible soap operas aimed at local audiences.

'Her Mother's Sin'—absolute TRASH... 🤦

I mean, the movie was... alright. It wasn't great, but I guess it was okay...

Yeah, it’s a bummer, but I still find myself respecting him somewhat because of Barking at the Stars. 😍

The cast looks promising; I’ll definitely check this movie out as soon as I have a chance. George Clooney never fails to blow me away with his acting—not to mention that voice of his. 😁

I’ve seen Wounded Eagle and Invincible Heart and actually enjoyed them, especially the latter. 😁 I haven't seen Housewife, though. 😛

For me, Eagle is the only one actually worth watching, and I’m obsessed with that song by Željko J. from the series. The rest? Absolute garbage, especially 'Her Mother's Sin.'

Hopefully, they at least hired actors who actually know how to act...😛

I finished reading the novel today and sat down to watch the '71 film adaptation. Since that one-sided movie version left out quite a few juicy details, I actually think Zdravko Šotra had plenty of room to craft a really beautiful film here.

I've always been a fan of Aleksandar Berček. And while I'm certain this won't come anywhere close to "Barking at the Stars," I can't wait to just sit back, relax for two hours, and enjoy the legendary John Doe. Not to mention his even more legendary students. 🙂

1. The movie lacks any actual narrative structure, functioning instead as a disjointed collection of anecdotes that fail to land a single joke.
2. The extras are almost impressively uncanny. They just stand by the roadside watching the leads, all decked out in perfectly pressed suits and crisp white shirts, looking more like rigid LEGO minifigures than actual people.
3. It’s jarring that the main cast is speaking with heavy North American accents. I found myself waiting in vain for a cell phone to ring or for someone to inevitably ask how Novak Djokovic was doing.
4. Even though the setting is supposed to be the late 1880s, everyone is wearing blindingly white shirts—even the laborers who are supposedly working hard—there isn't a single poor soul in sight, and every house looks pristine and manicured.
5. The musical synchronization is frankly abysmal. You have a guy playing the violin where the bow doesn't follow the rhythm at all, and the choir opens their mouths to sing "O" sounds while the audio clearly plays an "E."

My friends basically forced me to sit through the whole thing, despite my suggestion that we head out after the first thirty minutes.
