Laptop won't turn on

Got this old HP Compaq nx6110 laptop acting up. Sometimes it just hangs right at the HP logo (with the F10 BIOS prompt showing), and it won't even let me hit F8 to try Safe Mode or anything else. If I force it off and try a few times, I might get lucky and boot, but then it’ll just freeze up randomly and I’m stuck in the same loop again... Even when it does work, the USB ports are useless. A mouse will light up but won't track, thumb drives aren't recognized, and my phone charges but the computer doesn't see it. I tried formatting the partition and doing a fresh install of Windows, but no luck. Weirdly enough, everything runs perfectly after I run a defrag, but the problem comes back after two or three boots.
Can't find any fixes online that actually help.
Current setup: Windows XP SP3, AVG antivirus free, CCleaner, and the official drivers from the HP site for this model.

It looks like your hard drive might be giving up on you. Once you're able to boot back into Windows, could you download CrystalDiskInfo and paste a screenshot here? It'll help us get a better idea of what we're dealing with.

I honestly don't see what the point of using CCleaner even is. You really ought to stay far away from those kinds of programs because they usually just end up messing up your computer.

I forgot to mention yesterday that sometimes, even when everything seems fine and I shut it down normally, it just hangs on the "Windows is shutting down" screen... It never actually turns off, so I have to just hold the power button down to force it.

shadowlynx102 - aside from what I listed, I've got other stuff installed too. I just mentioned those because they seem more relevant to fixing this mess. I also have Microsoft Office, iTunes, Corel, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Chrome, and K-Lite...
I need those programs from time to time, and I basically only use this laptop for work involving them. I used CCleaner because the thing was painfully slow, and disabling all those background processes helped speed things up. It works okay for now, provided it actually stays running

If I were in your shoes, I’d honestly just swap out the hard drive. You’re seeing errors that are pretty much impossible to fix—once you get a new one installed, your laptop should feel just as snappy as the day you first unboxed it.

I don't think the drive is the culprit here. I've got an NX7400 and I'm running into the exact same issues—it looks like a BIOS flaw, which is a real headache.
