I suppose it's just because that movie isn't really in the running; it seems highly unlikely to snag a GOLDEN GLOBES 2015 nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy when it's up against heavy hitters like Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

That guy absolutely crushed it! He totally earned this. Hopefully he walks away with an Oscar, because honestly? Nobody else in this category even comes close this year. I've always been a huge fan of his work. 👍

What a massive surprise—How to Train Your Dragon 2 somehow took home the award for best animated film. I guess it was a huge favorite all along, though.

Exactly my point. Back when things were heating up with Iran, Separation swept up every award in sight. It’s the same story as when "Osama" cleaned up at the Golden Globes back in the early 2000s.

A few corrections:
First, the Golden Globes are awarded by foreign journalists based in Hollywood, so it isn't actually "Americans" making the call.
Second, Leviathan is a perfectly logical choice considering the current political climate. It’s a dissident film, critical of the Russian state, its dictator, and even the Russian psyche. Ida has been in the spotlight for far too long, while Tangerines remains an unknown to me, as does Gett. Tourist had a decent shot, but Leviathan is the rightful destination here.
(By the way, I find the Golden Globes nominations more appealing than the Academy's nine-film shortlist; the Academy seems to have lost its mind, or perhaps they just feel obligated to fill quotas with exotic selections.)
As expected, Birdman and Boyhood are sweeping the categories (a predictable result of the split between drama and comedy). Amy is my only real surprise so far.

Well, it looks like The Grand Budapest Hotel managed to edge out Birdman. What a shocker.
