Dealing with thrombophlebitis

So, two weeks ago, they pulled out an IV line I’d had in my arm for four days during a hospital stay (had gallbladder surgery). Since then, this vein in my arm—right above the crook of the elbow near the bicep—has been killing me. At first, it just hurt when I straightened my arm or if someone touched it. My doctor basically brushed it off, saying it was fine as long as I didn't have a fever or redness. Well, things changed. A red patch appeared right over the vein, and the pain ramped up so much that I can’t even straighten my elbow anymore. I have to keep it bent at a specific angle just to get some relief. If I try to stretch it out, the pain is unbearable, there's visible swelling, and the vein itself feels hard and thick to the touch. No fever, though. I went back to my GP, and she prescribed Klavocin and Aspirin, plus told me to use boric acid compresses held in place with an elastic bandage. I’ve been on the antibiotics for five days now, and honestly? Nothing. It still hurts, and the bandage actually makes it worse, so I stopped wrapping it tight. I'm feeling pretty stuck and I know I'll have to head back to the doctor soon. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? How did you get past it?

There's this red line following the vein from where the puncture site was, which has already healed over, stretching about ten centimeters across the muscle. I don't have a fever or anything, but honestly, any movement from my elbow down is painful as hell.

The longest I’ve ever seen something like this last was maybe ten days, but that was usually because the injection site got infected. Once that drainage cleared up, everything else just settled down.

I actually know a colleague who was getting iron IV treatments, and her veins just couldn't handle it. Every single time she had an infusion—even just a few hours later—the area around the needle would flare up. For her, those symptoms hung around for about a week.
The pain was intense, too, but it did eventually fade away.
She used saline compresses to help. She didn't bother wrapping it in bandages or anything.

It happened to me once, too. I stuck to saline compresses, even though some people suggested a mix of alcohol and water (half and half). I didn't go overboard with any bandages.
I just tried to use my arm as normally as possible, despite the pain.

Honestly, the symptoms really should be starting to ease up by now. Just keep a close eye on it... definitely watch out for anything new, like if your whole arm starts swelling. That’s when things get serious.

The pain is down maybe 30%, and I can finally straighten my arm out a bit, but the vein is still swollen and tender as hell. She gave me some heparin cream to rub on it (dammit, I had to pay out of pocket for it myself) and told me to stick with the aspirin. What’s really bugging me, though, is this dull ache starting to creep into the forearm muscle underneath—it feels like inflammation is brewing there, too. My doctor says she doesn't see anything unusual; thinks it might just be from keeping my arm in one awkward position for too long. Now I'm just waiting to see how this plays out. All this drama because of one damn brownie...😵

I was just watching the news and saw this story about a new mother who had to stay hooked up to an IV drip for four days straight—just like me. The woman ended up with deep vein thrombosis, which she managed to clear up with medication, but now she has to deal with constant checkups because there's always that lingering risk of it coming back. 😲😲😕

Had a Doppler scan done and they confirmed the diagnosis. I've been applying heparin and taking antibiotics, but nothing seems to make a dent. So, I had this routine surgery recently, and I ended up with these 24-hour bruises stretching from my left hand all the way up to my elbow—really nasty stuff. Now, a dark line has appeared, along with some pain and these weird little lumps
After seeing the doctor and getting a diagnosis, they put me on some heparin gel, but honestly? It’s not doing a thing. If anything, the vein feels thicker and more swollen, and these lumps... they're kind of migrating around, appearing in different spots every time I check
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Any advice or experiences you could share?
