Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Everything was running perfectly last night. No glitches, no warnings, nothing. I just closed the lid without shutting it down, letting it go into sleep mode like any other laptop. This morning, I opened it up and hit the power button. The fan spins up and then stops, the hard drive LED flashes briefly before turning off, and the disc drive whirs like usual—but there’s absolutely no image on the screen. I'm posting this from my tablet since it's the only way I can get online right now.
I've scoured every forum, read every thread, and watched countless YouTube tutorials, but I'm still stuck. I tried pulling the RAM and the battery, but nothing worked.
I really need this machine for work, so I'm open to any suggestions.
Windows 7
Windows 7 4GB RAM
500 GB HDD
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
It's about 3-4 years old (bought it brand new)

Here’s what I’d suggest trying: pull the battery out and hold down the power button for about thirty seconds, then pop the battery back in and see if it boots up. If you still aren't getting any picture, try plugging it into an external monitor to see if that helps. If there’s still nothing on the external screen, try shining a flashlight directly onto the laptop display while it's running to see if you can catch any faint outlines of anything on the screen. Once you've gone through those steps, let me know how it turns out so we can figure out our next move.

That's pretty much everything I haven't mentioned yet. I already tried the static discharge trick. I also hooked it up via HDMI, but it just says "no signal." I even darkened the room to check for a faint image, but the screen stays totally black.

At this point, you're looking at either a dead screen or a faulty display cable connecting the monitor to the motherboard. You should probably drop it off at a repair shop, or if you're feeling handy and know your way around hardware, just try fixing it yourself.

That sucks. If it happened while I was actually using it, I could at least say it overheated or a cable burned out... but for it to die while it was turned off? That's weird. And I still don't get why it won't work when I plug it into my TV either.
Thanks anyway.

Yeah, you know, it didn't occur to him at all. What actually happens when you hook the laptop up to a TV or an external monitor and hold down the Fn key while hitting F5? That should trigger the display toggle settings.

I just tried the F5 key, but it still says "no signal." Honestly, I can't even tell if the laptop is booting at all. The hard drive light blinks once and then nothing—dead silence. The fan spins for a bit if it stays on long enough, but the drive is totally quiet, like it isn't even running. It blinks once at startup and then just stops.

It might not even be an issue with the screen itself; it’s more likely that the laptop just isn't powering on at all.

shadowlynx102 said:Maybe the screen isn't the issue. It could just be that the laptop won't boot up at all.

So what’s the fix for that? When I hit the power button, I can tell something is happening inside, so I'm stuck. I really need this working.

I’d suggest dropping it off at a repair shop to figure out if you're looking at a faulty graphics card or a motherboard issue altogether. If it turns out to be the latter, you might want to start setting aside some cash—maybe get ready for a big dinner at Denny's and have your Visa handy just in case.
P.S. Either I missed it or you didn't mention which specific laptop model you're working with.

It’s right there in the title. But honestly, if there isn't a fix, I'll just have to make the drive to the nearest repair shop.
Thanks everyone.

Well, what can I say... it's still early in the morning, but I've already had a chance to settle in and give your post a thorough read through. 🙂
