Greetings to everyone,

I have been scouring the internet for some information regarding a specific setup, yet I seem to have come up empty-handed.

So, here is the situation: a close friend of mine is currently utilizing my Wi-Fi network.

He is using a standard 2.4 GHz antenna paired with a Netgear 751, and his signal strength is excellent.
Since my house is situated about 300 meters away from his, and he is currently seeing a signal strength of over 93% through that antenna, we are considering extending the Wi-Fi coverage all the way to his residence.
What would be the most effective way to pull this off?

To be perfectly honest, I am not entirely well-versed in the technical nuances distinguishing an Access Point from a router running on Wi-Fi n or Wi-Fi G...

However, I had a thought that perhaps I could acquire the following components:
A D-Link DWL-2100AP, which I would configure in AP Client mode to simply receive the signal and convert it into something a computer can actually understand.🙂
Then, I would connect a cable from that D-Link DWL-2100AP into a Netgear WR340GD to act as the device that distributes the network locally.

Is this logic sound, or am I missing something vital? Please, if you could offer some guidance, I would be most grateful.

Thank you all in advance.😁

That’s not quite how it works. What you actually need is a Wi-Fi repeater, which basically picks up your existing signal and rebroadcasts it further through his house.

What I am suggesting is using the D-Link unit to receive the signal—please do correct me if my understanding is flawed here
while the Netgear WR340G Wi-Fi router handles distributing that connection throughout the home.

In this setup, the cable would plug into the WAN port on the Netgear, while the D-Link device would simply utilize its single available 🙂
