That comment was actually aimed at me, not host Meadow. I think NOD14 quoted it because it highlights the specific vibe of the person who started this thread.
What if it’s true (even though I have no idea what we're talking about, purely hypothetically)?

You could have known what was going on if you had bothered to read anything here.
The OP basically equated judging people by their skin color with being an atheist. When I asked if he was trying to lump those two things together, he gave me a subtle little dig instead of answering.
What are you actually getting at? Are you saying it's an insult if someone can't wrap their head around string theory or the fact that the universe might have 17 dimensions?

If you just look at the context of how these insults were thrown around, you don't even need to ask those kinds of questions.

Wait, I think you might have missed the actual post!... Just let me know what you wanted to share... Sam Alvarez4 says:
.....
They're just so patient and thorough... like ants or termites...
Should we bring them on as moderators...?

Just trolling. Off topic...

If you don't even know what's going on, why jump in just to post something...?

Wait, I think you might have missed the post... or maybe I did! Let me know... Sam Alvarez4 says:
What are you actually trying to get at here? Is it an insult that someone can't wrap their head around string theory, or that the universe actually has 17 dimensions?...

No...
It’s such an insult when someone intentionally twists your words just to avoid actually proving their point... And it’s even worse when they use those distortions to claim "etc., etc." like they've won the argument!

It really gets under my skin, especially as a woman... being told that my brain just isn't capable of grasping something!

And how does the top part even transition into this so-called "theme"? It’s just a bunch of baseless claims... honestly. Full support from Oprah Winfrey on this one!
Of all the PDFs I've been working on lately... the religion section is easily the best moderated one...

bluecyclist64 said:Look, I actually started a thread here a while back questioning whether Meadow had what it takes to handle moderation duties.

Since then, nothing has changed, except that I have to watch my step in the Religion subforum because Meadow is just itching to hand out a ban.

So from here on out, be careful what you say in her territory, where she acts like an absolute dictator.

Ants and termites are known for being patient and methodical.
Should we hire them as mods instead?

Personally, I prefer cats and dogs over snails any day. They suit me better, honestly...

Dogs and cats... love that.

Forgive me if I'm not perfectly sane... :mol:

And why would anyone consider that an insult?

What if it happens to be true? (Even though I don't really follow this stuff, purely hypothetically speaking).

What are you actually getting at? Are you saying it's offensive if someone can't wrap their head around string theory or fails to grasp that the universe has 17 dimensions?

The reality is that Meadow, much like anyone else, isn't going to understand everything.

But the issue is that she's a moderator, and in that position, one should probably act less like a programmed robot.

If you're truly bored, you can go dig up my old thread about Meadow.
You could also look at how Bluebird used to moderate, so just think about it, boss...

This isn't the first time people have complained about Meadow, in fact...

I realize finding new mods isn't easy, but you shouldn't allow moderators to wage private wars against the community. Hell, I used to sit down and talk things through like an adult with ZgSash, yet he treats people here like he's Satan.

Someone who lacks basic communication skills and actively blocks their own followers shouldn't hold a moderator position. That's to say nothing of the other obvious flaws if you aren't choosing to ignore them.

Who is this Satan you're talking about? 🍿I thought you were being that guy. 🤣

You're just talking nonsense and blaming Meadow because you got hit with a warning; your ego is clearly bruised.
I once posted a link to a Luis Royo image on the Woodworking board and got slapped with a red warning. 🤣 🤔 I'd rather laugh at that than take it personally.

And it's not about the snails, or the cats and dogs—there are plenty of worse mods on this site if I really went into detail. 😬

And don't act like you're some saint of the forum either; 😁 I'd ban you for life if I could. 🤷

I assume blocking messages is within everyone's rights, so why should she, as a mod, have open access to every horny troll online? 🤷 It makes no sense. If you want to complain about a warning, you can do it right here, right?

Meadow is the law. 👍

This whole thread is pointless. 😍

Just yesterday, Oprah Winfrey posted the opening statement for this thread to provide a paper trail for her claims, arguing that appeals to the FTC shouldn't be handled as casually as a quick snap shot. I figured I’d give him a moment to step in and respond, but it looks like everyone else has just picked up right where he left off. We can't have it going on like this; we really need to pause and regroup.

Let's give him a little more breathing room to back up his arguments. Regardless, I plan to weigh in on everything we've gathered later today.

I just got flagged by moderator Meadow for this.

Original Post:

Quote: gringo1 said:It’s impossible to become an atheist; you can only become religious.😉
But atheism is the default state—the natural setting—so can anyone actually give me an example of someone born religious?☕

For me, from the moment I realized I existed, the idea of God just made sense and clicked immediately.

Do you have any examples of children being born hating the church and God, which is precisely what atheists are?

Trolling.
👏

🤣

Someone should have asked sooner, but it’s pretty obvious she’s emotionally unstable and looking for a grudge to settle.

William Bennett53, here is the reality: much like bluecyclist64, whose posts make it quite clear, we no longer have the "right" to participate on this PDF religion sub-forum, because whatever we write will be interpreted however she pleases based on her own whims, leading to yet another ban.
So there you have it; I’m clearly not the only user who has reported this, even if most people don't bother to speak up like I do, choosing instead to just make a new account or walk away rather than face the consequences.

The choice is yours now, and it comes down to your standards for this site: do you want these emotionally volatile mods who end up driving everyone away from the PDF religion section?

It seems I no longer have the right to post on the PDF religion forum, since a ban is inevitably coming my way.

rustydrifter10 said:It isn’t true that atheists inherently lack respect for religion; let's not fall into the trap of making sweeping generalizations. Besides, according to the rules of this PDF religion, making accusations without providing proof is strictly prohibited. If there are specific complaints being leveled, I’ll need to see the links to the actual reports.

Most atheists are atheists simply because they fail to grasp the actual essence of religion. When you read the works of any prominent, highly regarded atheist like Dawkins, the argument is always the same: they claim God is nothing more than an illusion and that religion exists solely as a tool for mass brainwashing.
That’s essentially the consensus among all the prominent figures in the atheist community, though I suppose you could argue that the everyday, unsung atheists have worked just as hard to build that exact same reputation for themselves.

Generalization is an absolute necessity; without it, we wouldn't have science, medicine, or even the very language and symbols we use to communicate today. In truth, if we couldn't generalize, civilization itself would never have taken root, leaving us with no scientific progress whatsoever. Think about it—without the ability to recognize patterns, our ancestors wouldn't have known to run from lions; they simply would have been eaten. Is generalization not, ultimately, the clearest proof of human intelligence?
I won't dive too deep into the actual philosophy surrounding generalization.

I’m sticking to what I said: if you're going to moderate a specific PDF religion, you really ought to grasp the very essence of that PDF religion, don't you think?
I’ve drawn parallels between racism and tolerance, and honestly, I could probably sit here and give you a million more comparisons if that's what it takes.
Is there anything more exhausting than encountering a complete mathematical illiterate on the PDF mathematics forum?
Is there anything quite as predictable as encountering a religious fanatic on an Evolution forum?
It seems like you might have hit send a little too early there. What was on your mind?

While my own critique regarding moderator Meadow isn't centered on that specific point, I couldn't help but notice how much they seem to push against religious studies—a topic that redbear2 has since expanded upon quite extensively here on the forum.

My only real issue with moderator Meadow is that they simply lack the capacity to moderate; it feels like we're dealing with a bad moderator who acts solely on their own whims.
If she can't wrap her head around a concept, or if a particular point happens to rub her the wrong way—regardless of how much sense it makes to everyone else on this forum—she’ll just issue a ban and steer the conversation exactly where she wants it to go. It's as if she views this entire platform as her own private playground, treating the rest of us like nothing more than mere numbers to be deleted whenever it suits her convenience.

redbear2 said:That was actually directed at me, rather than Meadow. I suspect NOD14 likely quoted me simply because it serves as a good illustration of the original poster's character.

No, that isn't quite right. The thread starter was actually addressing moderator Meadow, telling her point-blank that she wasn't using much of her brain.

You could have easily figured out what was actually going on if you had bothered to pay attention and read the damn thing.
The thread starter essentially drew a parallel between racist prejudices—judging people based on their skin color—and the atheist rejection of God. When I took a moment to ask if he was actually attempting to lump those two things together, he gave me what I can only describe as a subtle insult. It was a rather pointed way to dismiss my question.

Well, I read it. What a load of absolute nonsense....meaning this entire thread, from its very inception to its conclusion.

If you take the actual context in which these insults were hurled into account, there’s really no need to dwell on such questions.

I've grasped the context, so there's no need to worry.

I find myself thinking about the Antilles lately—not just the geography, but the sheer weight of history tied to those islands. There is a specific kind of melancholy found in places shaped by such intense colonial struggle and tropical isolation. It reminds me of certain stretches of the Gulf Coast, where you can almost feel the ghosts of past eras pressing against the humidity. I was reading through some old archives recently, much like one might sift through dusty files at a local library in New Orleans, and I couldn't help but draw parallels between that Caribbean history and the complex, often overlooked layers of our own American maritime legacy. It’s easy to get lost in the sunshine and forget the grit underneath. kaže:
Trolling. Off topic.

This isn't about trolling, nor is it an attempt to derail the conversation. While I believe patience and thoroughness are certainly virtues worth having, they aren't enough on their own to make someone a competent moderator.

If you don't actually have a grasp on the subject matter, why bother chiming in at all? Are you just posting for the sake of hearing your own voice?

Yes, I'm checking in because I have something I'd like to put down on paper. Do I have your permission to proceed?

No.
There is a particular kind of insult involved when someone deliberately misquotes you just to avoid actually addressing your points or proving their own baseless claims. It’s a cheap tactic, honestly. But what’s even more infuriating—what truly crosses the line—is when they take those twisted versions of your words and use them as a springboard to claim, "and so on, and so forth," as if they've successfully dismantled your entire argument through sheer distortion.

It’s particularly insulting to me, specifically as a woman, when people suggest that my brain simply isn't wired to grasp certain concepts.

And how exactly does that upper layer transition into what people call "the theme"? It’s labeled as such only because it consists of nothing more than baseless assertions. Honestly, I couldn't agree more—I'm fully behind moderator Meadow on this one.
Based on the various PDF files I’ve worked on—both those I’ve authored and those I’ve merely reviewed—I have to say that the religion section is by far the most expertly moderated.

I honestly don't follow the logic here. If I were a woman, I still wouldn't see how anyone could find it offensive if someone remarked that Ava Karabatić was as dim as a broken headlight.

Come on, everyone, let’s try to stay on topic here. What is the point of all this bickering?

bluecyclist64 said:No, that’s not right. The thread starter was actually talking to moderator Meadow—he told her she didn't have enough brains.

And of course, they threw two more insults my way to top it all off.

Well, I read it. Whatever. So, basically, looking at this entire thread from start to finish.

Great, then you get the context.

I get the context, don't worry about it.

So you're siding with Meadow too. At least in this specific instance—if not across the board.

Slow down...
There are a few points that need to be addressed here.

First, I find myself echoing what Nica already pointed out: complaints need to be targeted and substantiated with evidence. That is the only way they should be taken seriously. Otherwise, we constantly run into situations where someone takes issue with a moderator's actions, yet when asked for a specific example, it turns out the moderator was actually being far too lenient. This particular complaint isn't like that; even after two requests for clarification, we haven't received anything concrete to actually discuss. So, we won't. Why? Well, consider this: the thread starter complains that Meadow is rigid and fails to recognize satire—and whatever else—yet in this thread, which consists of 28 posts total from all participants, he himself has contributed three posts that warrant a ban for being insulting. Furthermore, when asked to provide specific instances of the behavior he is complaining about, he simply linked to a single post—a post in which he openly trolls by labeling atheists as haters of God and religion. Following that link, another forum member chimed in, who, frankly, was penalized far too lightly for hate speech. There you have it.

Second, it is true that Meadow is very strict. I am aware of that, as is the Administrator. However, Meadow is also a massive workaholic—a conscientious moderator who constantly reflects on her decisions. I suspect the forum members might fail to recognize this because they only see the end result, but Meadow reads everything carefully. She weighs whether there are elements of unacceptable communication, consults on borderline cases, and is exceptionally careful about maintaining the balance of what is permissible for participants. Therefore, contrary to the claims made by the thread starter—who, in his complaint, resorts to insults against her—Meadow is actively guarding that equilibrium.

If she were as strict and meticulous as she is while moderating an entirely different sub-forum (say, Politics, Football, or F1), perhaps her high level of engagement would indeed be seen as a drawback. But she moderates the PDF religion, which brings me to my third point. Religion is an incredibly volatile PDF. It is one of those areas where threads, or even entire sub-forums, could easily be destroyed if things are allowed to spiral too far. People are passionate about faith, and they regularly believe they are the only ones holding the truth (both believers and atheists alike). Sure, people think they are right about other things too—we see occasional slaughterhouses over "versions of the truth" in the sports sections—but I think we can agree that passionate disagreement regarding these fundamental worldviews is something else entirely. In my view, discussions within the PDF religion truly require strictness and caution; one must be extremely careful that what one person intends as satire isn't perceived as an insult by another. Thus, in my opinion, it is in the best interest of the forum and the PDF religion for Meadow to continue acting strictly and relentlessly, ensuring that this important PDF remains a well-moderated space where care is taken in how things are expressed.

If the Administrator has anything further to add, please feel free. Until then, I consider this matter closed.
