I’ve been scouring various forums and tech sites trying to piece together a build that’ll handle most gaming tasks, so I figured I'd run it by you guys to see what you think.

1 x Intel Core i5-4460 soc 1150
1 x Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
1 x Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H,1150,iB85,D3,S3,U3,DVI,mA
1 x Crucial Module 8GB,
1 x Fractal Integra M 450W, 80+ BRONZE modular
1 x Zalman Z3

For storage, I'm thinking a 250 GB SSD, and I definitely don't need an optical drive.
Does this look solid to you? Am I cutting it too close with the power supply—should I be looking at something 500W or higher, or will this setup hold up? Also, is this motherboard any good?
I'm not looking to overclock anything, and honestly, I couldn't care less about aesthetics or how quiet it runs. My budget is sitting right around $2167, and I just want to squeeze every last drop of performance out of my money.

Here you go—I swapped out the power supply so you get a better warranty and went with the H97 chipset, just so you've got a solid path if you want to upgrade to a beefier Broadwell chip down the road:

i5 4460
AS ROCK H97 PRO4
CRUCIAL 8GB 1600 MHZ
PATRIOT BLAZE 240 GB SSD SATA 3
GEFORCE GTX 970 4GB DDR5
FORTRON HYPER 500W 80+
ZALMAN Z1 MIDI ATX USB 3.0

= $2265That includes assembly and shipping.

Dennis Carter3 No offense intended, but I think this setup actually beats graniteharbor85's build—mostly because you ended up using the exact same motherboard the OP went with. Since he’s clearly looking to grab the best of the newest tech available, wouldn't it make more sense to go with the H97 chipset? That way, he keeps the door open to dropping in a Broadwell processor later on if he feels like upgrading, right?

Alright, fair enough. I’ll admit I wasn't being clear enough there—I figured what I was thinking would just make sense on its own. In my head, I was thinking $6500 +/- $33, not "10% more." 😁

Anyway, thanks to everyone who jumped in to help out.
Realistically though, is this CPU going to hold up for gaming over the next 2 or 3 years? If it can handle things, I don't plan on touching it, so I might just stick with this motherboard.

Honestly, an Intel Core i5-4460 soc 1150 and an Intel Core i7-4770K should be plenty for what you're looking to do right now. But hey—if you aren't planning on upgrading anytime soon, you might want to look into picking up something slightly better just to be safe. H81 mbo Look, you aren't really losing much by sticking with the B85—it does the job. But if you're actually looking to step things up, just bite the bullet and go for the H97 instead. Don't get stuck settling for that B85 board if you want something better; it's worth the extra stretch.
