If you wouldn't mind—could you possibly drop a link from Newegg here?

If anyone actually gives you an answer, then David Copperfield is a total pushover compared to him.

Which i5 processor should I go with? Or more importantly—which socket am I looking at?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/processor-details this is really the only option unless you happen to know of something significantly better for that kind of cash.

The i5-4460 uses a newer socket (1150), but it looks like that's not available in the link... Should I check out a different shop? Or is it strictly limited to Links? Also, will I need to grab a processor and motherboard together at the end? What happens with the rest of my components?

And just to be clear—do you need both the processor and the motherboard together? What about everything else in the build?

It doesn't matter which store it's from—anywhere in the States will do—as long as I can get the processor and the motherboard. For the CPU, I was thinking somewhere in the ballpark of $150, and maybe around $40 for the board.

You can just grab it through their online store—or even via Micro Center. If you look above $667, they actually offer free shipping. It’s totally reliable, so you really don't have to worry about anything.

Intel Core i5-4590 Processor (3.30GHz, 1MB, 6MB, 84 W, 1150) Box
ASUS B85M-E, 1150, Intel® B85, DDR3, 4 slots, 1600 MHz
= $0.71 if that feels a bit steep for your budget, then maybe check out

Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H, socket : 1150, Intel® B85

which would bring the price down to $672.

You don't need anything beyond this:
1 x Intel Core i5-4460 soc 1150
1 x ASUS H81M-K, Sck 1150

Total: $599
It’ll be delivered to your door by tomorrow, and you'll actually end up with $150$67 more in your pocket compared to what Links offers.
