No sound on my laptop!!!

First off, I’m not entirely sure if this belongs in this specific thread, but I could really use some help if anyone knows what they're doing!

For the last two days, my laptop has been completely silent (having an HP Compaq laptop CQ58, Windows 8). At first, it seemed like it was just an issue when I was browsing the web, but now there's no sound at all, even when I try to play a movie locally on the machine. 🤷
Just to be crystal clear: it isn't muted, and the volume is turned up all the way—I've already double-checked that.
On top of that, nothing comes through the headphones either.
So here's the weird part... I've been scouring various forums for advice and tried going into the settings via Sound -> Speakers -> Configure -> Test, and the sound actually works perfectly fine during the test. But then I go back to YouTube and... nothing. -.- Every single time I hit "test," the sound pops up, but then it just vanishes again.

And I still don't get why everything was working fine when I booted up the laptop this morning. Now, after being away from it for just a few hours, the sound is gone again.🙂

First off, try uninstalling your sound card drivers. You just head over to the Control Panel, find the audio driver under the "Uninstall a Program" section, and wipe it out. Once you've done that, give your laptop a quick restart—it's important. After the reboot, just hop onto Google and search for your specific laptop manufacturer and model number to find their official support page. From there, you can grab the correct sound card drivers, install them, and you should be good to go. If that sounds a bit too technical or confusing, just reply with your laptop's brand and model here, and we can figure it out together...

That’s pretty much it—you just pick your OS, hit "Next," and you're good to go. Just make sure you uninstall the old audio driver from the Control Panel and give your computer a quick restart before you try installing the new one 🙂
