A buddy asked me to put together a parts list for a gaming PC with a budget of $2000—so I figured I’d check in here to see if this looks alright or if maybe I should swap something out!

Regarding the processor, opting for an Intel i5 variant would be a much smarter move. As for the case, it’s frankly overpriced—there are certainly better options out there—but if you have your heart set on it, far be it from me to judge. It is refreshing to see someone actually investing in a quality chassis instead of cutting corners.

If you decide to stick with AMD, you are definitely missing an aftermarket cooler. Something like a Scythe Katana or similar would be necessary.

Furthermore, if you are paying cash, stay away from Best Buy; their markups are excessive. If you're just picking up a graphics card, it's fine.

The GTX 760 is also quite pricey. The R9 270 X is slightly slower, but it is considerably more affordable.

Here is a rough estimate if you end up shopping at Best Buy.

i5 4440
B85 motherboard
8GB RAM
1TB hard drive
R9 270 X
R9 270 X Aerocool
A decent 500-600W power supply.

I will put together something more substantial later.

What about the PSU?
No power supply listed...
With that CPU, you definitely need an aftermarket cooler. The stock one won't cut it—it'll run way too hot and loud.

If he's paying cash, he could probably snag a much better deal at a local shop like Micro Center. 🙂
