Hey everyone. πŸ™‚

I think my Microsoft drive just kicked the bucket. 😒

- This is the model I've got.

So, here’s the deal: macOS won't recognize the drive at all. I’ve tried plugging it into my desktop, my brother's PC, and even my laptop. Nothing. Total silence from every machine, even though they worked perfectly fine before. I haven't actually used it in about ten daysβ€”honestly, I completely forgot it existedβ€”so it's just been sitting in my laptop bag at room temperature. I haven't dropped it or anything; it just randomly quit on me. When I try to run a diagnostic or whatever you call it, I get this error: "This device is not working properly," followed by "macOS can't recognize..."

assuming you plugged that Microsoft drive back in, if not, try doing that first
what OS are we talking about on those machines and the laptop

maybe try booting into Unix, might actually recognize it then

Maybe give this a shot using a Unix live CD instead, link; link.

I think it might be a lost cause... you could always try reflashing the firmware driver one more time, just to see what happens.

You don't actually need any drivers for a Microsoft drive. Why not try that link Joshua Garcia3 shared? Basically, just download a Linux Mint live imageβ€”well, let's call it a Unix-based distroβ€”burn it to a blank CD, and then boot from that. Once you're up and running in that environment, see if the system recognizes the drive. If it doesn't work there, honestly? You might as well just toss it in the trash.

Or maybe they should just try plugging that stick into another computer to see if it actually works, you know? If the other sticks work fine on a different machine, then they'll know for sure. Once that's settled, then they can worry about installing the Microsoft drivers, assuming the hardware isn't the issue. Why are we overcomplicating things so much... let's just confirm the drive is functional before we start messing around with Mint...

honestly, it’s just cheap disposable junk at this point... just grab a new one and call it a day, you know? save yourself the headache...
if you're still feeling heated about it though, maybe give this garbage a shot instead http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...th-usb-devices
good luck with that!

Just got my replacement USB back under warranty, but they only gave me the drive itself. 😁 The guy over at Los Angeles tried it on two different computers of his, and still nothing. 😬 I honestly have no clue what's wrong with this USB.
