Liam Neeson has basically become the go-to guy for modern action movies lately—it’s kind of his thing now. Honestly, the fact that he’s a seasoned vet doesn't stop him from going toe-to-toe with anyone, whether it's terrorists trying to bring down commercial jets or some gritty mobsters looking for payback after he tore through half of Paris... or whatever city they're wrecking this time. Anyway, old Liam is still going full throttle. This time, it’s nothing too wild or out there; it’s more of a solid, old-school crime flick. He plays Matthew Scudder, an ex-cop, ex-alcoholic, and just a guy who made a messy mistake by accidentally shooting a bystander once. He spends his days hitting up AA meetings and his nights taking on occasional private investigator gigs for shady clients. One of those clients hires him to track down his wife, who’s been kidnapped and is probably already dead... if we're being real. Before anyone says he's just recycling the same formula, the whole concept actually comes from literature—this is an adaptation of the novel by Lawrence Bloch. There's a whole series of Scudder books out there (I think a few have even hit the shelves here in the States), so if the movie hits, Neeson’s gonna have plenty of work lined up. Might be worth noting that this isn't the first time this character has been on screen; Jeff Bridges played him before in a slightly disjointed but pretty decent noir called 8 Million Ways to Die. It’s dropping in October.

Liam is reminiscent of John Wayne

I just don't see the logic behind why the older guys get picked for more action roles 🤷

Ah, his big comeback. It seems the baby boomers are finally looking for their heroes again. :-)

Caught this at the theater a few days ago. It’s a decent enough flick, probably right in line with the rest of those Neeson movies. I kind of enjoy watching him, especially when I'm not really in the mood for something super heavy or deep. I wasn't huge on the ending, though—I guess I was expecting a bit more from it, but honestly, it fits the overall pacing, which is pretty slow. It’s a little unusual, I suppose, but Liam doesn't just go on a rampage through ten different bad guys like he usually does. Which, if I'm being honest, I actually liked.

I got exactly what I expected out of it. I might have even bumped it to an 8, but there were a couple of clichés that just didn't quite land for me.

The YouTube trailer looks incredible—absolutely killer. The actual movie? A complete letdown. 👎

Decent flick, worth a watch if you have the time. Deducting points because the clichés are pretty thick. Liam is solid though.

Honestly, this was a fantastic watch. When you’re used to seeing all those mediocre spring releases that try way too hard to pass off as gritty thrillers or action flicks, this felt like actual eye candy. Liam is at the top of his game here; in my opinion, he actually outdid himself compared to what he did in
Taken.
It's nothing groundbreaking, sure, but it's definitely worth your time—especially when you compare it to something like 🤮The Equalizer

Way too pretentious. This thriller tries way too hard to act like it’s high art instead of just being another cheap rip-off—it fails miserably. And that kid? Easily one of the most annoying characters I’ve seen on screen in a long time.
Strictly for fans of 'Dexter' or shows with that same dark humor vibe.
