Hey everyone, I have a question for you. A buddy of mine wanted a new PC, so I put one together for him with a budget of about $700. I already placed the order today, but now I'm sitting here wondering if I undershot on the power supply. Here is the build, so let me know what you think.

1 x Western Digital Hard Drive 500GB, 7200rpm, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB, DT01ACA050
1 x MSI GTX 750 Ti Gaming 2GB GDDR5, N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC Gaming
1 x AOC E2250SWDAK, 21.5", 16:9, 1920x1080, speakers, 200 cd/m2
1 x Asrock 970 Pro3 R2.0 AMD 970, Intel Chipset, ATX, FSB2400,4xDDR3
1 x Processor AMD FX-Series X6 6300 3.5GHz,14MB,95W,AM3+, FD6300WMHK
1 x EVGA Power Supply 430W, Intel Core i9 Series 80+ Bronze, EPS12V v2.3, 80+
1 x Samsung SH-224DB SATA Bulk Black, SATA
1 x EVC 6030 • ATX Case • Front Control Panel in Black
1 x DDR3 4GB (1x4GB) Kingston, 1600MHz, CL9, Hyper X, KHX1600C9D3B1/

$1498

And just so we're clear, he isn't planning on overclocking anything.

I wouldn't even consider going that route... I’d at least stretch my budget for an EVGA Power Supply like the CX500 v2.3, which delivers 456 W on the 12V rail... (I was browsing some specs on Newegg the other day). As far as I know, that’s the final iteration of the CX500, making it the highest quality version available..

I reckon he needs something pulling under 350W. That card's a bit of a power hog, though—technically you shouldn't even need an extra power connector, but they throw one in there just to keep the motherboard from taking a hit... so that EVGA Power Supply should definitely cover it. It really just comes down to what you're feeling. You a fan of the EVGA stuff or something else? Those things can get a little loud sometimes...

The whole setup doesn't even pull 250W, so I'm not sure what you guys are actually worried about 😬

It's just a 65W card and a 100+W processor.

You made a solid choice there. It’s much better than grabbing some cheap, low-quality junk. This configuration should pull about 200W under full load.

Could you pick an even bigger trash can for a case? 😁

It wasn't exactly cheap, damn it. But look, the guy had a strict $4,500 limit on his budget and couldn't go a single cent over, so cutting costs there was just the easiest move. :P
Besides, once you have the cash, swapping things out isn't that hard. It’s not like losing the money spent on an old case is some massive financial catastrophe, haha.

If he ends up voting for it, he should just go with the LC 95 or maybe the Spire Kepler
.
