MAMBA, regarding those issues in your group
look, it isn't really an issue right now since only the top two advance... but if things stay this messy through the end of the group stage, they'll have to figure it out. They'll probably rely on early forecasts, total wins, second-place finishes, or something similar to how they handle tiebreakers in NASCAR... or they'll just find some other compromise somewhere else...

Look, it’s not even an issue right now since only the top two move on. But if we end up with a tie at the end of the group stage, we'll settle it using either the early predictions or by looking at wins, runner-up spots, etc., just like they do in NASCAR—or we'll find some other compromise somewhere else.
Why don't you just invent a ranking system and bake it into the rules before we actually get there? That way we aren't arguing about it later...😉
Also, I have no clue what you mean by deciding things based on "early predictions."🤷
We're talking about seven races here, not just one. So that's seven different predictions... which begs the question: are we talking about just the final prediction, or are we looking at everyone's accuracy across all seven races?🤷

Considering the possibility that two drivers might end up tied in both primary and secondary points after seven rounds: I also suspect the rule regarding earlier predictions doesn't quite apply here, given we are dealing with a seven-race stretch. Perhaps we should look at who secured more first-place finishes? And if they remain tied on firsts, then seconds, and then thirds... well, I don't think we should go any further than that. (Though it’s unlikely we’ll ever need to, but one can never be certain.) If they happen to be identical across all those criteria, perhaps we could try this: examine the margin of secondary points earned between them during the specific races where one finished ahead of the other—starting with the wins, then moving to second place, then third. Or, perhaps a simpler approach would be to calculate the difference in their total secondary points over all seven rounds. The driver with the higher positive margin during the races where they outperformed their opponent would take the lead.
What are your thoughts on this?

I think it’s better this way—more winners and more runners-up within the group and all that.
There's zero chance they'll end up being identical since we're dealing with an odd number of races.😉
And honestly, there's no point overcomplicating things beyond that...

I find myself in agreement. Since we have already identified this potential loophole, we might as well go ahead and patch it up completely...
gentlecobra23, what is your take on this? It seems to me that we are largely in alignment regarding the distribution of first, second, and third-place finishes within the group. Are we truly intending to continue expanding the rulebook further?

You could also argue that the winner should be whoever predicted more secondary points... though obviously, if those tie, you just look at the next best one, and so on.
Honestly, that sounds like the easiest way to handle it without making life unnecessarily difficult...
That whole idea about submitting predictions months in advance and constantly switching topics sounds like a total headache.

Look, honestly, it’s not even an issue right now since only the top two spots are moving on anyway, but if things get messy toward the end of the group stage, we'll just sort it out using either the forecasts sent in early or by looking at total wins, second-place finishes, and all that—basically how they handle tiebreakers in Formula 1—or we'll just come up with some other middle-ground compromise.
It's really no big deal 🤷

I'm glad you all managed to reach a consensus on your own. Yeah, I was thinking along those same lines, and as far as I'm concerned, we can just write that into the official rulebook...

One more thing, there’s a 90% chance I won't be near my computer this weekend, which means I probably won't be watching F1 at all. I’m heading to some seminar on Friday, so I’ll need a volunteer to handle the 2014 tournament results over the weekend. Otherwise... you'll just have to wait until Monday night.
I'll confirm everything later this week.

I could always post some provisional or unofficial results myself, assuming the servers don't decide to act up again.

Nah, I don't think 🤣
Send me those forecasts at least three days early... you never know what might happen.🤣

Hey everyone, just giving you a heads-up that I won't be able to handle the results or run the tournament this Saturday.
If Fortin, Dorian, or maybe someone else could step in and take over those duties for a bit, I’d really appreciate it...

Whether it be Fortin, Dorian, or perhaps someone else entirely, if any of you could step in to handle those responsibilities on a temporary basis, I would truly appreciate it.
Actually, I will likely be back online later in the evening, so I should be able to post some provisional results then.
