I am looking for advice on a desktop build for $1000 since my current laptop can no longer keep up with modern technology.

Current specs:
Intel Core i3-2350M CPU @ 2.30Ghz
4,00 GB RAM
64-bit OS
Ati Radeon 7670 M 1 gb
500 GB HDD

I would appreciate it if someone could put together a build that offers slightly better performance than this laptop for $1000, if possible. Ideally, I want something with room for future upgrades—meaning a decent motherboard. I am a novice here, so I am relying on you all to provide a solution. =D

Thanks in advance.

If your CPU cooler starts getting a bit too noisy, you might want to pick this up at Links:

Found this cooler over at Links. It looks like it might work, I guess.

Yeah, 2GB sounds reasonable. I'm thinking it won't be a huge deal if I just toss in a single 4GB stick of RAM. It pushes me slightly over budget, but I'll make it work. Ordering next week—thanks a ton!

EDIT: You could probably get away with 8GB too.
