USB is working, but there's a catch...

My USB ports are acting super weird. My wireless mouse just won't work when I boot up my PC. I tried swapping it between different ports, and sometimes I’ll find one that works, but then as soon as I restart the computer, it stops working again. To make things even more confusing, if I plug in a wired mouse, it works perfectly fine every single time. Any idea what the deal is? What could be causing this?

The thing is, it works fine on other computers. I even tried my Logitech wireless mouse, but that won't work either.

Is Device Manager looking clean? No issues popping up there?

It might show up as an unknown device, but at least it’s not throwing a yellow question mark.
I'm not sure if there's any connection here, but my PC is acting up—it takes a second try just to get it to boot. Even when I try a restart through macOS or hit the physical button, the screen stays dead. It won't even let me get into that BIOS overview where you check out the motherboard, CPU, drives, and DVD drives. To fix it, I have to physically unplug the cable, plug it back in, and then try booting again. I already tried swapping the RAM into a different slot, but no luck. First thing you need to do—and I mean seriously, first thing—is install all those motherboard drivers. And wait, what do you mean you can't even get into the BIOS? Or is that what you're saying? I honestly have no idea what you're trying to tell me here.

So, I was trying to fire up my PC this morning, and the screen wouldn't even kick on right away. I just let the computer sit there running for a few minutes to see if it would settle down. When I tried again after a bit, everything seemed fine, except it wouldn't read my memory during that initial startup phase. So, I waited another two minutes, and then on the third attempt, it finally worked—it went through the whole routine, counting the RAM, the hard drives, and the optical drive, and then finally booted into macOS. Now, if I shut it down and try to restart, the tower powers up, but the monitor stays black. I know it’s not just a monitor issue, though, because the tower isn't making any of its usual startup sounds. To make matters worse, the reset button isn't doing anything at all. Whether I try to restart through the menu in the OS or hit the physical button on the case, the screen just won't come back to life or get me back to the BIOS stage.

Basically, it handles everything just fine, it just seems to glitch out every other time I try to use it.

If it’s failing to recognize the memory during startup, you're likely looking at a faulty RAM stick or some kind of hardware failure with your memory modules.

Could a bad RAM stick be causing my USB ports to stop recognizing devices? I’ve got a wireless keyboard that normally connects via USB, but nothing is working. I already tried swapping in a different RAM module, but the issue persists. I even tried moving the stick to a different slot, yet I'm still stuck. For context, I'm running an older motherboard—an ASUS AM2+ chipset style—and I've installed everything from the manufacturer's site, but I don't think they actually have the specific drivers for this board available.

Maybe there’s an issue with the graphics or the memory on this thing? Though I’m not entirely sure how much that would actually affect the USB ports. It picks up my Logitech keyboard instantly, and the USB optical mouse works fine too, but the USB flash drive, the wireless mouse dongle, and even the card reader just won't register at all.

Got it fixed. Swapped out the processor. I was running some weird dual-core setup before, but I just threw in a standard 2GHz chip and everything's back to running smooth again.

So, I fired up my computer this morning and the USB ports were working perfectly fine. My wife didn't even touch the thing all day, so everything was running smooth. Then, I go to restart the machine, it boots back into macOS, and nothing. It just won't work. Dammit! I'm seriously losing my mind here.
