Hey there.

Can those sudden full-body jerks right before passing out—the kind that happen almost every single night—be a sign of something serious, like a neurological issue? The guy isn't even awake for it because he’s already basically out...

I read somewhere that it might be linked to breathing issues. That could make sense since he’s a nasal breather, though barely, and sometimes he snores like crazy. 🙂

But then I also saw stuff saying it could point to a neurological disorder. Can't rule it out, honestly, because he used to have hand tremors at one point. They went away (maybe?), but they might’ve been tied to how messy his lifestyle was back then. Also, coffee definitely messes him up.

Sure, there's the totally harmless explanation about muscles relaxing before sleep, but given everything else, I'm not buying it.

He's 25, but I don't know if this has been happening his whole life.

Couldn't find a decent thread on here. There’s some psychology stuff, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I need to know if this is a medical thing (or not a medical thing)... like, is this a red flag? If it is, what's the move?

Thanks in advance for any insight or stories!

I find myself jolting awake just as I’m about to drift off into sleep. It doesn't happen every single night, but it occurs frequently enough to be noticeable.
One physician once explained to me that this sensation is simply that precise moment when the subconscious begins to seize control of the body from our conscious mind.
So, according to that logic, it isn't actually some sort of underlying disorder.
I truly hope there is some truth to that explanation; for my own peace of mind, I have decided to accept it as such.

I’ve always dealt with these sudden jerks right before falling asleep; it’s just my normal state of being...

Sometimes the twitch is so violent it actually jolts me wide awake.. 🙂
