Here’s a practical example of a direct health benefit: getting cats spayed or neutered significantly lowers their risk of contracting FIV via mating, as well as FeLV. Since fixed cats don't tend to get into as many territorial fights with other strays, they stay much safer. I'm not sure how familiar you are with these, but they are incredibly harsh, often fatal diseases that unfortunately run quite common in the US.
