It’s a beautiful, heavy, life-altering story about a guy who had every single chance to become the next Bob Dylan here in the States—at least according to someone who thinks Dylan was the greatest poet of the 20th century.
It's the story of the legendary musician Sixto Rodriguez.
But... life doesn't always play by the rules. Honestly, this documentary is more about those people out there with massive talent who just, for whatever reason, never quite reach the stratosphere.
Or maybe it’s about how you’re never too old to dream, and how wild things can happen when you least expect them.

Bottom line... after watching this, I hopped onto Amazon and ordered his album. People like him deserve the recognition.

It blows my mind that it took forty years for his music to actually find its way to us.

Just watch the documentary. Seriously. You might not even be into this kind of music, but you will love the story. It rightfully picked up an Oscar along with a bunch of other awards.

I see on IMDb that it’s been playing in theaters across America. Maybe some of you were 😉

And to wrap it up—or start it off—give this song a listen (though, like me, you should probably watch the doc first, then go down the rabbit hole:

That was an excellent documentary. You covered everything perfectly, so I'll just add a few of my own recommendations.
It’s probably best to watch it without looking up any details beforehand, just to avoid any potential spoilers. 😉

Best bet is to watch it without looking up anything beforehand. Spoilers will ruin the whole vibe. 😉

Yeah... that was my approach too. Had zero clue what it was about... just knew it involved some musician nobody had ever heard of before.🙂

I listened to that other album, "Coming from reality," today. It's killer. Man, it would be incredible to catch one of his shows live.😉

It’s actually good. A genuine breath of fresh air—just packed with such a massive, messy spectrum of emotions...

I finally got around to watching it yesterday—sadly quite late. I’d intended to catch it the moment I heard about it, but life happened, time slipped away, and I missed my window. It's been on my mind lately, though, especially given the tragedy of the director’s suicide. Such a damn shame.

A well-deserved Oscar, honestly—between the storytelling, those gorgeous shots, and that incredible soundtrack.

Yeah, there really are those types of people—the ones who stay humble, don't go chasing the spotlight, and are perfectly fine with the stars not always aligning for them. They just keep living their lives, quietly carrying this massive, untapped richness within them. It’s the kind of movie that hits you with both tears and triumph all at once... somehow, after watching something like this, you actually feel like a winner.

It’s such a fine, moving, and deeply human documentary—definitely one worth watching if you get the chance.

I actually dug the movie.

It felt less like a standard biopic and more like this deep dive into finding an artist who basically reshaped how the world saw South Africa and played a huge role in tearing down apartheid.

Then I was scrolling through IMDb and realized he did this massive tour through Australia.
That part kind of rubbed me the wrong way afterward.

But even with that hanging over it, the film is definitely worth a watch. 😉

What a waste.

Beautifully put. Honestly, it’s a movie about a man so humble it almost makes you feel self-conscious just watching him.
Just pure perfection.

A fantastic story told through an incredibly complex film.

At first glance, this is easily one of the best documentaries I have ever watched.
