🤷

I was just making a general point about why some moderators stay on the sidelines during certain threads, or why, even when they do jump in, they don't actually moderate and instead just leave it all to their colleagues.

Look, just find me a replacement. I honestly don't care who takes over the spot; I've got plenty of other things to deal with in my life anyway. 😉
Besides, if the moderators aren't doing anything useful, it's not like it matters whether someone is actually watching this sub or not.
Or maybe it does...

Emily Martin said:...so....what exactly is their deal? 🙂

...if it isn't a state secret, obviously.

- if it's a specific Adobe file, they move messy posts into the right thread,
- they brainstorm and coordinate among themselves on how to drive more traffic to certain Adobe files,
- they organize a better, cleaner schedule for topics,
- they cook up some truly out-of-this-world ideas,
- they launch those limited-time themed events,
- they move junk over to the Trash,
- they handle private messages from Reddit users,
- they basically mentor people on how to actually have a decent conversation,
- they shield users from the malicious (and just plain obnoxious) types,
- they coordinate with moderators from other Adobe files within the organization,
- we read the FBI reports,
- we get to know the other corners of Reddit,
- all sorts of miscellaneous stuff.

(* this covers everything a standard moderator
isn't technically authorized to share with the rest of the Reddit world) 😁

Look, I’m putting Jack forward for this. If he isn't interested, then you have my name. It’s certainly not an ideal situation, but if there truly is no other way to save the DNC, and if Jack declines, I am willing to sacrifice my own time—at least for the time being.

Look, this isn't how you elect moderators on Reddit. You can always shoot a DM over to the current mod team if you think someone would actually be a solid candidate, but I’m going to ask the current mods to please stop throwing their own positions out there—especially since they know perfectly well how the selection process is supposed to work.

Fine, let’s get this straight then. Who exactly am I supposed to private message my proposal to? If we're going to follow the official handbook to the letter, who is the contact?
Is it you, Stryker, Tyndall, or Scotman?
Do I need to go grab a stamp at a local CVS first?

Just tell me, rustydrifter10, so we can settle this like adults.
Because some people seem to think social sciences are actually legitimate fields of study, rather than just some joke played in a basement corner.

EDIT: Look, I have no idea what an election is supposed to look like here. I simply put forward the suggestion I did. If I've stepped out of line, the choice is yours: either penalize me, or tell me exactly what needs to happen so the DNC can finally become an Adobe-quality platform worthy of the people who actually care about it.

bluecyclist64 said:Alright, fair enough. So, who should I send my suggestions to via private message?

Actually, you don't need to send them to anyone anymore since they're right here on the thread. 🙂 But let's hit the brakes for a second because we really don't want this topic to turn into some sort of popularity contest for moderator positions. Moving forward, if you have any other ideas, just shoot a DM over to the DNC moderators or the site admins.

I wouldn't, but hey, thanks—it means a lot that you trust me. 🙂

I’ve poured way too much time, sweat, and soul into the DNC already. Most of what’s written there, under both my old and my current username, is mine. And I’ve been hanging out here since 2003, which is—man alive—nearly ten years.

Do you even realize what ten years looks like? In that time, I could have started three companies, knocked out two college degrees, maybe even married five times... 😬

Bradley Barnes90 said:If someone like that actually showed up, we’d jump at the chance to take their help. But honestly, it feels impossible to find someone who’s an expert but doesn't stir up drama, all while having the full backing of every single admin and moderator, which... I guess is pretty crucial.

I get where the admins are coming from, but does every single one of those hundred moderators really need to sign off on a new hire for the DNC? Good luck finding anyone who fits that bill, I suppose.

Comparing this to the hard sciences is just a non-starter. On the DNC forums, you can debate the same topics forever and never reach a finish line. Most things there just don't have one right or final answer.

That doesn't mean people shouldn't use actual arguments, though. I mean, what kind of discussion are you even having if everyone treats social sciences like "this is my opinion because I say so"? It's frustrating. People with real knowledge and solid points eventually just give up and go back to reading Adobe files. Who wants to argue with a brick wall?

It’s honestly pretty fascinating—how an Adobe file that was supposed to be the backbone of a serious platform, the very thing this Reddit prides itself on being, has just been tossed into the corner like trash🙂

There was a time when Reddit actually set the trends; now, it feels like the trends are just running the show here
And unfortunately, we’re still stuck with those specific types of trends that would make any decent, self-respecting person cringe

I really hope the current leadership and those in charge—as well as the old guard who used to call the shots (🙂🙂🙂)—can see the damage being done and the fallout that's bound to follow

PS: Honestly, these constant excuses about what’s "urgent" or "more important right now"—which they just keep repeating over and over—remind me way too much of that classic, condescending attitude you hear from some big-shot corporate CEO: "Just get it done, I'm doing it, don't bother me with your nonsense"

Now, this sounds like an absolute IDEAL(ism) 😁
Thanks for the response! 🙂

Well, why not the next 10 then? Honestly, I doubt anyone (sensible) today would jump straight into starting businesses, two degrees, and especially the rest 😁

If someone truly cares about a specific sub-forum—they hang out there often, they have the knowledge, they know how to handle people, they have support, they've been nominated... then why not?

I completely forgot to mention mental stability... because without it, one might feel personally attacked by any critique of their work, taking it all to heart and getting lost in the weeds of reality.

Or, alternatively, they might fly off the handle at criticism—acting condescendingly toward users, ignoring them, and failing to even consider the possibility that they might be wrong or have overlooked something.

I see they’ve added Apophis back in, even though he was already on the DNC roster before. Is this a permanent move, or just some temporary fix while they figure things out?

Neither, really. You could call this a stopgap measure, but honestly, until we find a candidate who actually checks every single box—and let’s be real, who knows if such a person even exists—our hands are pretty much tied. The only thing we can realistically do is keep a tighter leash on the trolls. 🙂

Aside from keeping a closer eye on the trolls, there isn't much else to be done. 🙂

If you're all that stressed about it, I'll personally buy you a few decks of playing cards. Just act like actual moderators instead of a bunch of disorganized fanatics. 🙂

Could you maybe define what "every single box" actually means? Just so we have an idea of how long we're stuck waiting for this perfect candidate.
