Regarding that thread about gay adoption, my take was pretty straightforward: "If same-sex adoption were ever legalized, I’d personally favor a lesbian couple over a gay male couple every single time."
Then a user named badinerie chimed in with a simple: "Why?"
So, I laid it out: "In my view, it comes down to maternal instinct. I think they’d provide more nurturing, fewer identity crises for the kid, and less bullying at school..."
That's when the problematic post shows up—a direct response to what I wrote, basically taking aim right at me.

"Abusers come from families with a mindset just like yours."

What else am I supposed to call that quote if not a blatant, nasty insult directed at me and my family?
There isn't some clever way to interpret that as anything other than a slap in the face.

I’m asking for the post to be deleted, because apparently the moderators see things differently and think no rules were actually broken.
And let’s get one thing straight: I’m not looking to get badinerie banned or punished; I don't care about that. My appeal is about principle. No side should be given an advantage, and no one should be allowed to resort to personal attacks just because we disagree on an opinion.

From what I can tell, she wasn't aiming that at you—she actually clarified that herself. It was just one of those messy misunderstandings where things got crossed during the conversation.

If I go ahead and delete her post, I’ll have to wipe out your replies too since they're part of the same thread. If you both are cool with that, I can clear the whole thing out.

No need, really. I’m perfectly fine with the fact that you even bothered to step up and try to help.
What actually rubbed me the wrong way was being insulted out of nowhere. It's the same old story, isn't it? You hold an opinion—and look, we all have them—but if you happen to disagree with gay adoption, suddenly you're automatically labeled a predator, a bigot, or some other kind of monster. It’s exhausting.
If I happen to think that lesbian women might make better parents—which follows my broader view that women generally make better guardians than men, mind you, this is just my own take—then I don't see why that should trigger such a massive meltdown from everyone else.

I didn't file this complaint just to go after that one user (you know I'm not the type to report people to the moderators on Reddit or anything like that; I haven't done it before and I don't plan to), nor am I trying to drag the mods under the bus. Honestly, the admins here are pretty fair. I’ve been blunt myself, used plenty of ad hominem attacks in the past, and instead of getting banned, I usually just get a warning to clean up my act. The subject matter is just sensitive enough to keep things tense, but at the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their own perspective.

As far as I'm concerned, you can just lock the thread.

Nicholas Williams7 said:If I personally believe that lesbian women would make better parents—similar to my general view that women tend to be better caregivers than men—and I clarify that this is just my own opinion, then I don't see why anyone should take issue with it or react so strongly!

And if someone believes that viewing caregiving ability through the lens of gender is pathological, why would that bother you?
