I just flagged a comment where Papa Smurf called me an idiot, a dimwit, stubborn, and more—but honestly, that’s just one of his many posts where he goes on these arrogant, incredibly rude tirades against anyone who doesn't see things exactly his way.

I can't believe we're still having this exact same debate—it’s like watching a rerun of a show that wasn't even good the first time around. Honestly, looking at how people are reacting to this, it feels like we’ve collectively lost our grip on reality. The logic being thrown around here is just... well, it's a stretch. You can't just take one tiny piece of data, ignore the massive context surrounding it, and then act like you've uncovered some grand conspiracy or a groundbreaking truth. It doesn't work that way. People love to cherry-pick their facts to fit a narrative they've already decided is true, and frankly, it's exhausting to watch. And let's be real about the "experts" being cited—half the time, they aren't even experts in the field they're talking about. They're just loud voices in a crowded room, shouting over everyone else to gain a few extra clicks or likes. It's all just noise at this point. We need to start demanding actual substance instead of just more polished nonsense.

That comment right there? Honestly, if anyone else had posted that, they would’ve been slapped with a ban immediately for being abusive—full 100 points, easy. But instead, Papa Smurf doesn't even get a slap on the wrist; he just gets a little warning. Typical.

After a few reports started piling up, Chuck finally decides to show his face in the thread, barking about how any further bickering is going to result in sanctions—as if that actually changes anything. But honestly? Papa Smurf couldn't care less about some moderator’s warning. He goes right ahead and drops an insulting comment immediately after the threat, yet somehow avoids getting even a single penalty point. It's almost funny—the moderator actually ends up editing the post just so they don't have to go through the hassle of issuing a formal sanction. Typical.

Papa Smurf said:Joshua Martinez7, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxLook, everyone else saw that too—that’s exactly why they’re all hitting you up with those comments. Look, there are actual normal people hanging out here, and you just don't fit the vibe. Do us all a favor and get lost from this thread.

So, I go ahead and report that one comment where Smurf was being insulting again—both directly and just through those little passive-aggressive jabs—and what happens? I’m the one who gets hit with a red card. Apparently, calling him an "unfortunate soul" is where the line gets drawn. Unbelievable.

Joshua Martinez7 said:I knew I’d forgotten something—it always comes back to me eventually. The car loan. Nissan has six different SUVs in their lineup right now, and I ended up pulling the trigger on the mid-sized one—an Xterra. It's going to be $560 a month for the next five years.

Look, I know New York City well enough that you can't pull any fast ones on me. I see you trying to spread those same tired old stories among the diaspora, too—but I’ll leave that particular job to someone else. This whole topic is a joke anyway; it’s clearly just being dragged out to pile on one poor guy.

Look, you only started this whole thread just so your ego wouldn't get swallowed up by that massive "Moving to America" megathread from back in 2003—or maybe you'll settle for the "Jobs in the States" one if that doesn't suit your mood. You're basically trying to sell us some fairy tale about how you managed to feed a thousand people with a single loaf of bread, but let’s be real—not everyone here is naive enough to swallow that crap you're peddling.

I didn't call anyone an idiot, tell people they were being normal, or tell them to get lost—so how on earth did I end up with a red flag?

I’d love for someone in charge to step up and explain why Papa Smurf hasn't been slapped with a red card yet—given his relentless, blatant insults and constant trolling—while everyone else (myself included) keeps getting tossed out for much more minor stuff.

Why does that one forum member—the one who’s always acting so aggressive and stuck-up—actually have moderator protection?

Thanks!

Your contribution to this thread was such that you deserved more than just a single warning for off-topic trolling. Beyond that, the way you managed to pick fights with everyone here is quite another matter.
As for the thread starter, following my warning—which, mind you, wasn't even the only moderator intervention on this topic—they posted something that's been partially edited. Whether that warrants a formal strike given the context of the entire discussion will be left to the administration's discretion.

By claiming I should have been hit with more strikes just for trolling or going off-topic, you’re basically just pushing your own biased agenda. When I hopped onto this thread last night, I saw people who don't see eye to eye with me getting slapped with red cards—honestly, it was totally overkill and pointless. It was pretty obvious right then that any further comment from my side would be sanctioned regardless of what I actually wrote. Even if I had stayed silent, the outcome would’ve been just as skewed: those two users would've been red-carded for no reason (meaningless, really—one could've topped out at a 10-point penalty for being off-topic), while I—the guy you’re accusing of needing more penalties for trolling—get nothing. And let’s not forget Smurf, who spent the entire thread aggressively picking fights with anyone who disagreed with him.

I’ll leave the "trolling" calls to an objective judge, though I haven't called anyone an idiot or told them to get lost, nor did the moderator have to scrub profanity from my posts. But as far as off-topic behavior goes? I'm definitely not the culprit here. In fact, I actually filed several reports against off-topic comments—comments I chose not to engage with personally, hoping they'd be deleted, just like I noted in my reports. Those off-topic posts weren't removed, which only serves to encourage more off-topic nonsense.

P.S. Just read the thread again—you'll see plenty of other users took Smurf’s rambling as nothing more than useless bragging (aka trolling).

There’s already a dedicated thread for Expatriation and living in Canada, so there's zero reason to open a new one titled Canada: The reality of life in a developed nation. And yet, even that isn't being sanctioned.

After Smurf ignored your warnings, you still haven't found the nerve to actually give him a red card; instead, you just edit his posts and issue more warnings. If I had told Smurf he was an idiot and to beat it, I would've been slapped with a penalty before I could even blink. And I'm talking a full 100-point strike.

I've said all I can about the red cards. As for the duplicate thread, it's only so that topic stays within the Diaspora, though I'm sure there's more talk about Canada on Reddit.
This specific thread is about a UN user who spent nearly a year hyping up his move to Canada. Once he finally left, he just wanted to share his impressions with his colleagues from the UN who had weighed in on his plan. There really wasn't a need to post certain details there; they didn't belong.

Aha, so he’s just playing them. 😁 Everything he said makes a lot more sense now.

But look, regardless of the drama, you can't have double standards on a forum. If there's already a thread titled "Moving to America and Life in the States" specifically designed for people to talk about relocating and living here, I don't see any reason to let one guy spin off his own separate version of that same topic. It sets a terrible precedent for everyone else—not to mention it gives that specific user this false sense of immunity, making him think he can just do whatever he wants, swear, insult people, and drive them away from the discussion.

I really hope we see the same rules applied to everyone moving forward. That's my two cents—thanks for listening, and go ahead and lock the thread! 😉

Smurf Papa finally got the penalty he deserved, so honestly, it was about time.
Moderators, I’m going to ask you nicely to please stop editing user posts unless it’s some kind of absolute emergency.

Just to jump in here—Papa Smurf got his warning, but you definitely got what was coming to you, Jumai. Honestly, I let one of your posts slide that probably should've cost you a week-long ban, but I’m not playing second chances next time.
