So, I’ve run into a bit of a snag with my file transfer speeds. I'm averaging about 20MB/s right now, which feels pretty sluggish to me since I read online that it should be hitting up to 90MB/s.
I just picked this thing up brand new, plugged it straight into my PC, and let it handle its own driver installation.
I'll be honest, I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to this kind of hardware stuff, so I would really appreciate some help getting this sorted out! 🙂

Wait, hold up—are you even plugged into a USB 3.0 port to begin with? Seriously, if you've got it sitting in a 2.0 slot, there's your answer right there...

I don't think I even have a USB 3.0 port on my machine. I just went looking for one right now, but absolutely nothing... Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised though. My computer is about five years old at this point, and this feels like a whole new level of tech compared to what I've got.
So, does that mean I actually need to go out and grab a USB 3.0 hub too? 😵

Look, buying a USB 3.0 hub isn't gonna do squat if your motherboard is stuck in the dark ages with nothing but USB 2.0 ports. And let's be real, since that rig is at least five years old, they definitely are. You can plug all the high-speed gear you want into those old ports, but you're still gonna be capped at USB 2.0 speeds. In the real world? You’re looking at maybe 30 MB write speed max, though honestly, most of the time it’ll probably crawl along at like 15-23 MB/s. It's just frustrating, man.
Anyway, I did a quick little dive on Google and found this first link for ya http://www.diffen.com/difference/USB_2.0_vs_USB_3.0

Oh, 🙂
That’s great, though it means not even my sister can use her laptop anymore! :')
Well, I'm actually planning on picking up a new PC soon, so I'll definitely be paying much closer attention to those ports when the time comes 😬
