Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)

In this trilogy—which is almost complete now—I find myself most drawn to the cast. I truly believe several of these actors possess far more potential than they’re actually being allowed to showcase here.
Specifically, Patrick Wilson is fantastic (he was stellar in something like Lakeview Terrace), and Lin Shaye is just wonderful (she’s famously linked to the family behind the legendary New Line Cinema and Robert Shaye... plus, she was absolutely brilliant in horror flicks like Dead End back in 2003).

As for James Wan, I feel like he’s lost his way a little bit lately.
He proved he was already a true master of the craft way back with Dead Silence, so I’m confident that much more successful and high-quality projects are waiting for him down the road.

Honestly, it feels like the producers just forced him to cash in on the franchise as fast as possible, even though the sequel,
is slightly more polished, still felt like a total grind for me.

James Wan really needs to take a breather, man. The guy has serious talent, and it would be such a damn shame if he just completely lost his edge and went downhill.

I actually preferred the first one. Even if this sequel offers more backstory and fleshes out the plot, it just doesn't hit me as a horror film. Like someone else mentioned, that first installment, along with the Conjuring , stands as some of the best horror we've seen lately.
