My Dell SyncMaster finally kicked the bucket after four years and three months πŸ™‚
Even with the sun beating down today, I could barely make out the icons through the pitch-black screen.
The image is practically invisible under bright light, which tells me the backlight is dead.
Anyone else dealt with this specific failure before?
Is it even worth trying to fix this thing?

I ran into the exact same thing with my laptopβ€”the backlight died and left me staring at a screen where you could barely make out a ghost of an image. Luckily, I managed to track down an identical part on Craigslist ($83) and swapped it out myself. Honestly, your best bet is to just scour eBay or some other online marketplace; if there's a replacement backlight for that specific LCD floating around somewhere, you'll find it. β˜•

There is certainly no reason to rule it out, as the issue likely stems from a failure within the inverter power supplyβ€”most commonly due to worn electrolytic capacitors in the filter stageβ€”or perhaps a malfunction in one of the MIT drivers within the inverter itself (which would typically cost roughly $200-$$100 at a reputable repair shop). However, if the fault actually lies with one of the CCFL lamps, the repair process becomes significantly more intricate, and the overall cost-effectiveness may be questionable, though I would certainly advise requesting a formal estimate before deciding.

Thanks for the info.
I'll track down a repair shop this afternoon and see what they say.
If it's under $100, then yeah, I'm definitely getting it fixed.
Honestly, I have zero complaints about the monitorβ€”it’s a great piece of gear.

Not sure if this belongs here, but I figured it might be a monitor issue.
I’ve been playing NFS for a long time without any hiccups, but now
I can't get the resolution back to how it used to be. Everything looks stuck in this tiny, square box, maybe like 6 by 6 inches
or somethingβ€”doesn't really matter.
I tried adjusting the scaling in my settings, but that only affects my desktop, not
the game itself.
Even though the game lets me pick the resolution, brightness, and sharpness, I just can't get it to fill the whole screen like before.
Is there some other trick to fixing this?
