Honestly, you're better off just uninstalling your antivirus. It’s nothing but a resource hog. Just run manual cleanups with tools like Hijackthis every now and then. Most people make viruses out to be way more dangerous than they actually are. 🙂

Not dangerous? Really? Then I guess there's no other explanation for why most people who get infected end up blowing money at a local repair shop to get their PCs fixed.

Besides, I have no idea which antivirus is supposedly eating up enough resources to justify a full uninstallation. 🤷 Mine stays active all the time and I don't even notice it running, let alone taking up any meaningful space on my drive.

I run ABP, Ghostery, and Norton ESS v5 plus, and I’ll throw in Malwarebytes Anti-Malware every now and then... honestly, I've never had a single issue. 🤷

Then it’s definitely a forum issue.😬

@adatar, if you aren't willing to swap out your antivirus, then an update or a clean reinstall of AVG along with an adblocker and Ghostery should fix your problems.

Honestly, I have no idea which antivirus program is supposedly hogging so many resources that it's better to just uninstall it altogether. 🤷 Mine stays running in the background constantly, and I honestly can't tell it's even there; it doesn't eat up any noticeable space or slow down my system.

And let's be real, most people are just terrified of tech issues, so they rush straight to a service center. 🙂

Look, I'm definitely no IT guru or anything, but I've gone ten years without an antivirus and haven't run into a single issue.

Back in the day, I'd just do a quick little cleanup a few times a year using Hijackthis, Spybot, and stuff like that, and I was good to go.

Now, I don't even bother with all that anymore; I just stick with ABP, and my machine runs perfectly fine.

Plus, yeah, I browse pretty much every kind of corner of the web and download 😁

This isn't actually an issue with the forum itself; it seems to pop up on every single site where the Gemius service is active.
To make a long story short, since the last update, AVG has been flagging Gemius as malware, though I suspect this won't be an issue for very long...
It’s nothing to worry about, really.

I’m running AVG over here and I haven't seen any issues at all—I usually just log in via Mozilla.

I’ve also got ABP installed, so ads are pretty much non-existent.

That logic is just as incredibly foolish as saying, "I’ve been riding my motorcycle without a helmet for ten years and nothing bad has happened yet."

I mean, if you're going to try and play with statistics—which you are, the moment you bring up your ten-year track record—then we might as well keep chasing nonsense: absolutely everyone—meaning 100% of those who get hit by a virus for the first time—had never been hit by one before that moment, much like how people who die without a helmet have certainly never died without a helmet 😬. So, following a line of reasoning just as nonsensical as yours, everyone without a helmet is destined to die, and everyone without AV software is destined to have their computer destroyed by malicious viruses.

I managed to sort out that issue by running an AT&T update. 🎉
My sincere thanks to everyone for the helpful advice 🙂
