shadowpilot8 said:Look, these quotes aren't even about you—they're for the massive crowd reading this. I'm just laying out my reasoning for why I gave you a warning. Plus, I already explained why I didn't flag hazzarder, which—let's be real—is clearly what's eating at you the most.
Let Uncle Stryker step in if he thinks things need fixing.

What really gets to me is how you can just let someone walk in and start insulting people without any provocation? It’s wild. The rules are pretty clear about the penalty for insults. Hint: it isn't "just post a public warning in the thread and let everyone guess who's being called out." And don't ask me if I'm pushing for punishment... you're the Moderator, for crying out loud! You should be able to shut that stuff down immediately. There's no need to DM me for a consultation when a post is reported—especially when it was reported for a valid reason. If you're just intimidated by hazzarder, just say so and we'll come back you up.

Seriously, shadowpilot8...

I’d love to know what kind of criteria they used to pick that woman as a Moderator.
Or better yet, what on earth keeps her in that position.

"If you really insist, I'll penalize him..." 🤦

Daniel Ward87 said:Just tell me which Moderator we're talking about, and then we can actually get down to business.

Honestly, I’m just as invested in this as everyone else. This isn't some one-off complaint; we’ve been seeing this exact same issue resurface for weeks now. I know quite a few of the moderators personally, and none of them would ever dream of ignoring a report or using a fake email address to dodge responsibility. Reporting posts is how we survive. It’s our lifeline. I don't see any logical reason why these reports should be ignored, and frankly, I think letting this slide is incredibly toxic for the moderation teams across all these subreddits. If users lose faith that their feedback actually matters, they’re going to stop trying altogether. And that’s when we really lose. We lose that vital helping hand. On high-traffic forums like this, we can't be everywhere at once. If we don't act on reports immediately, dozens of threads will end up "polluted" or spiraling in the wrong direction long before we even realize there was a problem. Speed matters.

I’m going to say this one more time: after nearly eight years of moderating, I have never once encountered anyone who actually ignores reports. Look, I’m not claiming that it’s impossible for things to slip through the cracks, but if people are so dead set on insisting that we’re ignoring them, then they need to step up. Show us a specific report. Give us a name, a location, a timestamp, or a direct link. Anything else is just hearsay. Without hard evidence, it’s nothing more than gossip, rumors, or pure paranoia—even if there is a legitimate suspicion that something is actually happening. If you don't provide proof, the admins can't do a single thing to help us. We can't act on vibes and "feelings."

Or better yet, what kind of criteria are they even using to justify keeping that woman in charge of moderation?

"If you're really going to insist, I'll hand out the penalty..." 🤦

So, what's the actual point you're trying to make here? 🙄

Short lines, little sense. A waste of perfectly good ink. Get to the point, man.

ambermason16 said:Honestly, I’m interested in this too. Especially since this specific complaint has been popping up repeatedly over the last few weeks. I know quite a few of the moderators here, and none of them just ignore reports or use invalid email addresses. Reporting posts is how we get help—and a massive amount of it at that. I don't see any reason to ignore those flags, and I don't know any mod who would think it's okay to just brush things off. To me, this whole situation feels potentially toxic for the moderation teams on all these subreddits. If people lose faith that their feedback actually matters, they won't bother reporting anything anymore. We'll end up losing invaluable help, and on high-traffic forums like this, we can't be everywhere at once. By the time we notice, dozens of threads will already be trashed or derailed, which could have been avoided if we had just acted immediately.

Look, I’m saying this again: after nearly eight years of moderating, I haven't met a single person who actually ignores reports. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but if people are dead set on claiming that we ignore posts, they need to step up and provide actual proof—a specific report, a username, a timestamp, or a link. Anything else is just hearsay. Even if what they're saying were true, none of the admins could do anything about it because the whole thing sounds like nothing more than gossip, paranoia, or just a bad vibe. There's always that nagging suspicion that it's all just made up.

It wouldn't hurt to actually read this entire thread from start to finish so you'd know exactly who we're talking about and what the actual issue is.

ambermason16 said:So, what exactly is your point? 🙄

Short lines, three beats. Not much to say here today. That is all I have.

What exactly is your problem?
How is it even possible that there are moderators out there whose management style is borderline tragicomic?

Look, I *did* read the whole thread from top to bottom, but this isn't some isolated incident. That's why I'm asking. People are out here making wild claims like, "I know five moderators who personally know five other mods using invalid emails," or "Nobody ever responds to reports." It's a pattern.

What part of this don't you get?
How can there be moderators whose management style is nothing short of a tragicomedy?

I don't see what your problem is here. This is just another mindless post attacking shadowpilot8 without providing a single shred of evidence or a concrete example.

The issue here is that I dealt with something very similar involving this same Moderator not too long ago (I can go into more detail if you're really interested). The reason this whole thread was even started—including the fact that she's actually asking one user if they insist on getting another user banned—is because of the sheer absurdity of it all, which isn't exactly surprising given her track record.

The whole reason this thread even exists—specifically the fact that she’s asking one user if they’re really insisting on getting another user banned—is just pure Monty Python nonsense. Honestly, it’s perfectly in line with her usual style.

It is your absolute right to complain if you feel like you've been wronged by a moderator or another user... my only issue is the way you handled it regarding shadowpilot8. I’m going to skip over the part where I explain why I think she’s actually a great moderator because that’s irrelevant here. I’m simply pointing out that calling someone out publicly by their username without providing any actual evidence or context is unfair and incredibly uncomfortable for them. If you think she made a mistake, call her out on the specific error. But do it properly. Using cheap shots like "facepalms" or "I don't know who picked you to be a mod" is just pathetic and unjust.

If you think she messed up, call her out on the actual mistake... but using insults like "facepalms" or saying "I don't know who picked you to be chosen" is just cheap and unjust.

Fine, then tell me: do you find it fair when I ask the FBI admins why a certain moderator isn't responding to a thread? I directed that question to the admins and mods, not her—I wasn't demanding she jump in immediately with an answer. To paraphrase what happened: "Why should I have to respond? I'm doing this job as a volunteer anyway." (And in that case, it wasn't a facepalm, it felt more like a slap in the face).
So, she ignores the questions actually directed at her, yet she jumps in to address things she wasn't even asked, adopting a tone that completely contradicts the version of moderation you just described.
Look, I called her out too, but she just ignored my inquiries, mostly by playing a game of telephone—talking about things I never even mentioned or asked—only to eventually shut down all communication entirely without any real argument or explanation for her actions.

Look, I’m asking you all nicely: please don't go throwing accusations at anyone without backing them up with actual links or by naming specific users. When you just throw out these vague, undefined allegations, there's no way for us to verify if they're true or even worth looking into, and frankly, that kind of baseless drama doesn't belong here on this subreddit.

Mark Thompson6 said:OK, so tell me—do you honestly think it’s fair? I ask a question on an FBI thread about why a certain Moderator isn't speaking up, and I direct that question to the admins and mods, not her—because I don't expect her to jump in with a lightning-fast response. I basically asked, "Why should she even bother responding when she's doing this job for free anyway?" And from the look of it, she wasn't just facepalming; she was practically baring her teeth.
So, she ignores the question actually meant for her, yet she jumps right in to answer questions that weren't even directed at her, using a line of reasoning that completely contradicts the version of "moderation" you were just pitching.
Look, I called her out too, but her way of ignoring my inquiries was essentially playing a game of broken telephone. She’d talk about things I never even mentioned or asked, only to eventually shut down all communication entirely without providing a single shred of logic or explanation for her actions.

Alright, this is a legitimate grievance. It's not my place to weigh in or comment on it, but I am absolutely certain that the people actually involved in this mess will respond. Sometimes it isn't about a lack of willpower to reply; there are real reasons. Maybe the woman just has the flu. 🙂

Or to put it simply: I didn't intend to meddle in a specific situation that doesn't involve me... I just wanted to point out that if you're going to trash someone on the FBI boards, you need to provide a concrete example. As far as I know, shadowpilot8 is a fantastic woman and a great Moderator... I don't know you as well, but my opinion of you is also positive... So where did your interaction go wrong? Again, not my business... but the only way I know how to handle this is through a direct conversation about a specific issue. If you're arguing on the forums and you and the mod can't reach an agreement, the Super-Mods and Admins are always there. But they can only fix the situation if the facts are actually laid out for them. XY is 🤦 helping no one. 🙂

Look, if we’re going to move past the abstract stuff, you can find my actual arguments over on the "Complaints about bans" thread on page 138 and under the "Moderator" topic on pages 77 through 79.

@rustydrifter10/">@@rustydrifter10, it’s pretty interesting how not a single admin or mod bothered to give a final word on that whole situation.

Mark Thompson6, did it ever occur to you that the mods and admins didn't issue a final ruling because they actually agree with me? They had nothing left to say. That's their prerogative. Just as it's yours to claim I'm the worst moderator to ever walk the earth.

Stryker, Mark Thompson6 recently filed a complaint regarding my moderation; if you have the time, feel free to read the pages he cited. However, I will simply state here that I have never once been as arrogant as he claims I am (specifically regarding his accusation that I said, "Why should I even bother showing up when I'm just doing this job as a volunteer?")

No, it didn't. But it did occur to me that if they're siding with you, someone else could have easily typed out the exact same thing.

shadowpilot8, sorry for jumping in here—I just can't sit by and watch 😍
Mark Thompson6, I’m looking at what shadowpilot8 wrote back to you. The woman was asking what kind of "obligations" could possibly exist in a purely volunteer role—and she even noted that a polite response would be appropriate (much like the one you gave her regarding the complaint). And no, I’m not defending shadowpilot8 (she has her own way of speaking and knows exactly what she meant), but that total misinterpretation of what was actually said really caught me off guard 🤷

Mark Thompson6, look, I’m reading what shadowpilot8 replied to you. The woman was asking what kind of "obligation" could possibly exist in something that is purely voluntary, and she also pointed out that it's basic courtesy to reply (just like she did when addressing your question/complaint). And no, I'm not defending shadowpilot8 (she has her own way of speaking and knows how to clarify her point), it's just that such a blatant misinterpretation of what was actually said caught me off guard 🤷

Look, there can't be any obligation. That's not even up for debate. What *is* debatable is bringing up the fact that it's volunteer work as a way to justify the quality of the job being done.
Maybe that attitude works for you, but to me, it comes off as arrogant because I honestly don't see any reason to emphasize that point other than to act superior.

Especially since I think it's a terrible approach regarding complaints or comments, which aligns perfectly with what ambermason16 and rustydrifter10 were saying—that you need to provide specific, concrete reasons when expressing dissatisfaction with a certain Moderator.
The points they made make total sense to me, but this kind of insistence loses all credibility when you have a Moderator who acts like their personal whim determines whether they'll bother to respond to you or not.
It’s hard to take seriously if that logic only applies one way.

And for the record, she wasn't answering my question; she was responding to my complaint, which is a huge distinction.

Alright, let’s look at this logically—I was curious enough to read through the posts both before and after the one you linked. First, you ask if moderators are required to respond or if they can just ignore you (in the Moderator thread). shadowpilot8 answers that they aren't obligated, though it would be polite if they did, and she actually 🤷
And now you’re claiming she’s being rude simply because she pointed out they aren't required to reply and mentioned they are volunteers—which is a plain fact 🤷. I fail to see how mentioning volunteer status correlates to job performance, given that every single moderator here is a volunteer 🤷. Honestly, I don't get why anyone would find it arrogant to mention they are volunteering 🤷

Maybe we are reading different threads, but I truly don't get the impression that shadowpilot8 is rubbing anything in anyone's face, nor does this seem to be about her mood. On the contrary, the woman stated it is polite, and she is simply acting accordingly 🤷. At the end of the day, from what I can gather, you are demanding accountability from the admins (just like in the Moderator thread), so shadowpilot8's attitude shouldn't bother you—since the admins aren't volunteers 😍. As much as I wish moderators were strictly obligated to respond, you technically cannot force a volunteer to do anything. You can only rely on their decency to answer when asked. And those who lack that decency clearly aren't cut out for this, so you end up in the same position anyway 😉

And frankly, you can't just barge into a thread and shout "xxx is a terrible moderator" without explaining why. If there is a grievance, provide the reasoning. If all you have is the desire to scream that someone is incompetent, then don't be surprised when the admins don't take you seriously 😉

Elizabeth Anderson63 said:Look, I was curious enough to go back and read a few posts before and after what you linked.

That’s nice of you, but it would’ve been better if you’d done that before deciding to jump into this thread.

Elizabeth Anderson63 said:First, you ask if the Moderators are required to respond or if they can just ignore you (on the Moderator thread). shadowpilot8 tells you they aren't obligated, but that it's polite to reply, and then she actually did 🤷

Yeah, except I don't care about her perception of politeness; I care about actual obligations. So her comment about volunteering is completely irrelevant.

Elizabeth Anderson63 said:And now you're claiming she's being rude just because she answered that they aren't obligated and mentioned they are volunteers—which is a plain fact 🤷. I honestly don't see how you're linking the mention of volunteering to job performance, since all mods are volunteers 🤷. And frankly, I don't get why anyone would act arrogant by pointing out they're volunteering 🤷

Maybe we're reading different threads, but I really don't get the vibe that shadowpilot8 was rubbing anything in anyone's face, nor does it depend on her mood. On the contrary, she said it's the polite thing to do, and that's how she's acting 🤷. Ultimately, from what I gather, you're looking for the admins to weigh in (just like on the Moderator thread), so shadowpilot8's mood shouldn't matter to you since the admins aren't volunteers 😍. As much as I wish mods were required to reply, you technically can't force a volunteer to do anything. You can only rely on their decency to answer when asked. And clearly, those who aren't decent aren't cut out for this, so you end up in the same spot anyway 😉

I wasn't linking volunteering to quality of work; I was just pointing out her argument that a moderator's response on the FBI thread depends entirely on whether they feel like being polite.
In my view, if you decide to take on a responsibility—and let's assume you actually intend to do the job right—volunteering shouldn't be used as some convenient excuse for why things aren't getting done, regardless of whether there's a paycheck involved.
It’s entirely possible that both you and she see this platform and the expectations for its moderators differently than I do.
Maybe whoever gave her the moderator role said, "Look, you're volunteering here, you aren't getting paid, so don't sweat the small stuff. For example, if someone asks a question on the FBI thread under a specific topic, you can step in or you can skip it. It's your call. Decide for yourself if it's worth your time:"

Elizabeth Anderson63 said:And that's true; you can't just barge into a thread and claim someone is a bad moderator without explaining why. If they're complaining, they need to provide actual reasons. If all they want to do is yell that someone isn't doing their job properly, then they shouldn't be surprised when the admins stop taking them seriously.😉

Well, we can all agree on that.
My point remains: that logic goes both ways, and using "I'm a volunteer" as an argument to dodge obligations doesn't exactly raise the standard of this community.

Mark Thompson6 said:In my view—assuming you’ve actually committed to a task (and let's assume you perform it correctly)—volunteering isn't some magic shield you can wave to excuse why you aren't getting things done.
Perhaps you and she hold different perspectives than I do regarding what this platform is—and how its moderators ought to conduct themselves.
Or perhaps the person who appointed her as a moderator said, "Look, you're volunteering here; there's no paycheck involved, so don't sweat the small stuff. For instance, if someone asks a question about the FBI on a specific thread, feel free to jump in or just skip it. It's your call—decide what you think is appropriate."

Well, we can all agree on that part.
However—and I'll reiterate this—that logic should work both ways; using "volunteering" as an excuse to dodge responsibilities doesn't exactly raise the bar for quality.

Honestly, I think you're barking up the wrong tree, but 🤷
I agree that moderators need certain qualities to even qualify for the role—but since this is volunteer work, the owner technically can't force their hand; they have to rely on those inherent qualities (which includes the basic decency to answer when asked). At the end of the day, she answered you—at least from what I've seen every time you've called her out. 🤷
Are you actually upset because she replied to your question by stating she wasn't obligated to, even though she *did* reply—not because the owner forced her, but out of simple courtesy to a user?!
Is it just me, or is that weird? 🤷

About 4 months ago, I issued you a warning, which you didn't contest at the time. Your actual grievance is simply that Klapalo wasn't penalized on that same day because you took issue with his comment.

This entire endless exchange is nothing more than logical nonsense fueled by that single issue. Don't you think it's time to move on?
