Let's get real—we've only played one actual decent game out of our last four.🙂 Today was a total disaster. We started the first quarter with a pathetic 3-0 run, then spent the middle of the game getting burned on three straight fast breaks, and finished the game shaking like we were playing against an All-Star squad instead of just Spain.🙄 And we actually had a lead for a few minutes right before that collapse...

It sucked. We should have played way, way better than that...
The second you start looking toward Mexico for validation, you know something is seriously wrong.🙂

THE AMERICAN TEAM IS A TOTAL DISASTER AT THIS CHAMPIONSHIP!

Man, out of five games, we haven't played even one properly. If it wasn't for Pavic, I guess we might have had ONE win (against Romania). That guy basically saved us against Mexico, and then again against Spain today. Honestly, that game against Spain wasn't even water polo.

Nobody else really stepped up to their usual level every single game.

Our backs—Bura, Bushel, and Buljubašić—who are usually the backbone of the whole thing, were just way below average. Bura was playing through an injury and trying his best, but he wasn't anywhere near his usual self. Same goes for Bushel, I guess. On top of that, they weren't threatening at all on offense. And Buljubašić is a whole different story; he just doesn't have the skill for the national team, but unfortunately, we don't have anyone better.

Dobud played at a high level almost every game and was clearly a class above Paul, who, much like Buljubašić, just lacks the quality to be an American representative. Sadly, I think Dobud's stupid mistake against Mexico probably cost us our spot in the second round. We played the most important game without our main center, and the officiating felt like it was totally biased because of that one play.

Mario, Mike, and Sandy played okay, but those are the guys who are supposed to make the difference, so you expect them to be more than just "okay." Muslim finally woke up in the last game, but until then, he was easily the worst player on the American squad this tournament. Obradovic was useless, which is the last thing we need—we need a killer shooter from the perimeter.

Barac and Karac did exactly what was expected of them. They're kind of like the safety net, experienced players who step in when things get intense (like Barac did today against the opponent).

And finally, there's Rato, the most decorated and respected coach, but honestly, he just timed everyone's form wrong this tournament. Our defense was just pathetic, man. I mean, our goalie only had about 15 saves over three games, and that's just unacceptable! The offense was bad too, especially the man-up situations where we were slow and uncreative. But my biggest gripe is the discipline—or lack thereof. As the coach, he should've had that under control.

Sadly, I'm expecting Germany to beat Romania—which won't mean much to them—and maybe a friendly draw between Mexico and Mexico, or a win for Mexico, whatever gets us through. Honestly, based on how we've played, we didn't deserve anything more than this.

1. Mexico 12
2. USA 9 (+1)
3. Mexico 7
4. Germany 6
5. Spain 4 (+1)
6. Romania 0

We've got two ways this goes. Either Mexico loses or draws against Mexico, or Germany pulls a similar stunt against Romania. If we end up tied with Germany on points, our head-to-head tiebreaker puts us at a disadvantage.

Mexico will probably just suck it up. Everyone's waiting to see if the Romanian machine actually kicks into gear ☕

Look, let’s just say the Germans are having a total disaster of a day...
And on the flip side, let's say the Romanians are absolutely killing it..

After everything that's gone down, you guys really think the refs aren't going to step in once they hear what the Romanians have to say while we're left struggling over here?

Our real shot was actually a day earlier during the Spurs - CG 10:10 match.

Look, I’m not usually the type to stir the pot or start any drama, but I really have to ask... who are you guys actually rooting for in our matchup against Mexico? 🙂

If they let the Mexicans get away with that kind of stuff, it's going to come back to haunt us eventually. Beyond that, it just feels wrong—totally unsportsmanlike. Honestly, if they do decide to settle the score, maybe we should let them, even though this is the perfect moment to just shut down our biggest rivals and send them packing.
But, I guess, there's something a little sweeter about beating them head-to-head on the court.

I’m not really rooting for anyone here, I’m just watching the chaos unfold.

There is absolutely no way in hell I believe the Mexicans are going to play with any integrity until the very end.

I mean, unless they actually think they’re so damn good that they can coast to a championship without even losing a single game, regardless of who they're facing?!

If Mexico pulls off a win or even just manages a draw, we’re through. But if Mexico wins, it’s game over for us, and honestly, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves. It looks likely that Mexico will take it convincingly—which makes sense, really, since Mexico has already locked up first place. Their coach can afford to rest the starters and field a second unit. Those bench players just aren't on the same level as the main squad, and there’s zero pressure on Mexico to win this one. Personally, I'm just going to sit this one out and see what happens...

.... Well, my fellow Americans, we're basically playing for you right now!!! 😉 Soros is defending the perimeter, and Vanya just made it 1:0!!! EDIT 2:0!!!

I don't know, I'm getting the feeling the refs are just dragging their feet rather than letting us play... we're up 2-0, Soros has already pulled off two or three massive saves plus a penalty, and the starters are out there... though I guess that doesn't mean much before the final whistle.

Soros is stopping everything they throw at him, but the officiating is absolute robbery—red cards, penalties, fouls called on us in the attack... obviously, it's all rigged against Mexico.... 2:2

If we're gonna talk about "brotherly" debates, I don't think you Americans feel any closer to Mexico than we do.😁

Let's just start a tally now: how many missed shots are we looking at, and how many times is someone going to get left completely stranded out there?
EDIT Or he'll just end up losing the ball entirely.

I honestly don't even know if anyone here has caught wind of this yet 🤷

Major props to the league for setting this up 🙏🙏 🙏

CA is currently sitting pretty with a 3:2 lead heading into the final stretch

That Mexican coach is absolutely wrecking things right now 🤣

Man... you guys really want to go after him? Fine. He's gonna give it right back to you.🤣
