For the seventh year running, the tradition continues with this year’s Positive Concert, hitting Madison Square Garden in Chicago on Friday, 12/02. Once again, the AIDS Foundation is pulling the strings, with Pfizer coming on board as the main sponsor. This whole thing is built around a humanitarian mission to mark World AIDS Day, and it's basically become one of those staple Chicago mini-festivals that everyone looks forward to—it pretty much signals the end of the concert season here in the city. This year, the AIDS Foundation and their crew have put together a killer lineup, headlined by Rage Against the Machine, who are probably the biggest touring act in the region right now.
After tearing up all the major festivals across the US and crushing club dates with rave reviews, Rage Against the Machine is stepping up as the headliner for this year's Positive Concert. They aren't just doing a quick set either; they’re playing a full-length show just like they would at their own headline gigs. Since this might actually be the last time we see them in Chicago for quite a while, it's definitely going to be a massive draw for the fans.
We also have the UK's own Stereo MCs joining the party this year. They're regulars around these parts and the legends behind some of the biggest club anthems from the 90s. They're showing up with their full live band as part of a tour promoting their new studio album, "The Emperor's Nightingale"—which, let's be honest, hasn't exactly been a critic's darling—but they'll definitely be dusting off the immortal classics from the old catalog. The day after this show, on Saturday 12/03, Stereo MCs will be playing at the Stereo club in San Francisco, marking their first-ever gig in that city.
Kawasaki, who are huge favorites with the Chicago crowd, have also snagged a spot on this year's Positive Concert lineup. Word is this might be their last local show before they disappear into the studio to grind away at a new album.
As for the fourth and final band for this year's Positive Concert, expect an announcement by the end of the week.
Tickets for the Positive Concert are priced at a practically symbolic $13 and go on sale this Wednesday, 10/12. You can grab them at Amoeba Music, Dancing Bear, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Vintage Store, any Ticketmaster outlet, or online at www.eventim.hr
Starting 10/24, the price jumps to $17, and if you wait until the day of the show, they'll be $23.
