Hey there. So, how does one actually go about making a 3D movie? I’m looking to dive into some 3D animation—specifically LEGO style.
Something along these lines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_Ebu...eature=related I need software recommendations. I'm not trying to churn out a two-hour epic, but I don't want it to be just a four-minute clip either. Something middle-of-the-road—maybe around thirty minutes. Obviously, I'm not planning on
dedicating my entire life to this, so I really need something user-friendly. Cheers from Savannah! 🙂

I suppose I am wondering whether you actually intend to produce an original 3D film from scratch, or if your plan is perhaps just to take an existing 2D production and attempt to convert it into 3D.

I'm thinking about filming. Yeah. I'd also love to take some 2D animation—not the Pixar kind—and turn it into 3D. You happen to know any software that handles that?

So, you would have two centered cameras positioned roughly 4 inches apart, recording simultaneously. I suppose what you actually do with that footage depends entirely on your intended output—whether you're aiming for 3DTV, a specific media player, or a standard PC setup—as well as the particular type of 3D glasses you intend to use.

Nah, not quite. I mean making a movie on the computer—not actually filming stuff. So I’m looking for a specific program dedicated to making those little stop-motion style flicks, assuming something like that even exists.

It seems to me that you aren't actually referring to a 3D film, but rather to the process of 3D animation itself, I suppose.
There is a common sentiment that the premier software for 3D animation would be Blender.

Good grief... I will give credit where it is due regarding the sheer ambition of the concept, but one must realize that producing even a single minute of animation requires years upon years of dedicated labor, specialized experience, and deep technical expertise; furthermore, Blender is by no means the gold standard when it comes to high-end animation work. It would be best to refrain from such commentary if one hasn't properly done their homework. To be blunt, creating an actual animation demands a level of proficiency that, quite frankly, I don't see you possessing. Siri, but you can essentially forget about this ever happening.

Best regards,

Look, a movie is just a sequence of images—so, do you even have the images? What exactly are you planning to build this thing out of?

From what I gather, his intention is to use some kind of software to build out 3D characters and then handle all the animation work and such... It seems to me that it’s a rather lengthy and grueling process, which I suppose isn't really for everyone, since if it were actually easy, I imagine everyone would be giving it a shot.

To make a Netflix production, you’d need actual bricks, a camera, and some editing software—but this supposed "app for making Lego movies"? I have no clue what that’s actually meant to be. 🙂

He was under the impression that he could produce a Netflix production quite like the one featured in his initial link. I suppose the reality is that such a thing is a professional endeavor that simply cannot be accomplished overnight. He seemed to assume, perhaps naively, that there might exist some specialized animation software designed specifically for creating Pixar films, which would already include certain pre-built elements that one would merely need to animate.

I am absolutely loving this!

Seriously, someone please teach me how to convert stuff into 3D! Everyone seems so obsessed with it lately, so I've gotta see if it's actually as easy as people make it sound...

Just go ahead and search Google for "3D video master" and you should be able to find the blog containing all the instructions. If you run into any issues or if something seems unclear, I suppose you could just ask about it here.
