I honestly don't see where people are getting this "boycott" idea from, unless they’re just desperately wishing for one to feel validated. If you look back at the last successful competition, five entries were posted within the first ten days—three by the same author and Goldman Sachs was nowhere to be found—yet nobody was out here hallucinating some grand boycott. The contest simply unfolded naturally and went great, so I don't see why this one would be any different. Besides, it's only been six days.

To be blunt, I used to drop by the Foodie forum maybe once a week before these contests started.
Since these competitions kicked off, the topics have basically taken over my subscription feed 😍
The concept itself is great—kudos to Reddit for getting something like this moving.
Unfortunately, the level of concentrated ego on the Foodie board is so high that reading it can actually feel a bit nauseating at times.
Some users there communicate with the rest of the community in a truly nasty way, yet they never seem to face any disciplinary action. If those same people are hanging out in threads moderated by specific mods, it naturally makes you wonder if those mods are playing favorites or staying objective.
Honestly, Polly, I saw how you handled things with Dlap when the protests about the contests broke out, and I have to say, nice job. You were a solid moderator and handled all the complaints and dissatisfaction regarding the contests perfectly.
If I may offer a suggestion—and please don't think I'm being biased just because I hang out in the general threads—since you hand out warnings for insults, you should apply that same standard to the foodies. Honestly, they are the ones responsible for most of the passive-aggressive and outright rude comments I see.
I don't personally think I should put Dlap on ignore because her advice is genuinely phenomenal, but she can also be incredibly rude to others—and that behavior doesn't seem to trigger any sanctions (at least not visibly).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing this to get Dlap banned; I'm saying that if you're going to moderate, it needs to be fair. There shouldn't be "protected" users and "unprotected" users. Either everyone who insults others gets a warning, or you just admit the Foodie board is a free-for-all for massive egos and permitted rudeness. 😉

Edit: Just to clarify so there's no misunderstanding—Dlap isn't the only one like this, nor is she the sole reason the atmosphere on the Foodie board is what it is.

Something like that, so 🙂

jadesailor14 said:Look, I am blind. Like, officially diagnosed blind, basically a bat
Ali if you say so, then this photo is just pure self-delusion: I don't know how to

My bad. My first recipe didn't have the label on it.
Look, I’ll admit when I mess up.
Everything else I said still stands.

back during those days of chaos and good vibes
but some of you don't rememberbecause you weren't even on Reddit yet

Unknown, what is that supposed to mean? That we're somehow less valuable users just because of that?

jadesailor14 said:I haven't noticed you posting recipes, joining debates, giving advice, anything culinary... so sorry for my remark about you not having any specific posts
I thought I knew all the foodies on here pretty well, but apparently I don't

We all know you only notice what fits your narrative.
Isn't this post just a passive-aggressive insult? Just like this one? I didn't notice they were flagged. Or will that happen retroactively too?

Anyway, you forgot to apologize for dragging me with this:
Polly said:even now, from the very start of the new round, you already know who the winner is, even though the rules clearly state voting will be done through a public poll
Ali we’re just going to rig the public poll too, I guess.
Seriously, please explain to all of us—the mods and admins alike—how exactly that works. I’d love to know the secret sauce.

jadesailor14 said:My policy isn't about handing out warnings just because someone clearly made a mistake. If they insist on being stubborn and doubling down on their ego, then that's a different story.

But you only hand out warnings for "passive-aggressive insults" to a select few.☕

jadesailor14 said:And part of the "boycott" is that the winner is already a foregone conclusion. :rofl : :rofl : :rofl :
I really need to go buy myself a crystal ball. I seriously do.
Where can I find one on sale?

Sarcasm doesn't really suit you, especially when everyone knows the truth.
Want to borrow mine?

Ever since these contests kicked off, the topics are basically sitting in my subscription feed.😍
The idea itself is great, and props to DD for getting it moving.
Unfortunately, the Foodie section is ruled by such a massive amount of concentrated ego that sometimes it's actually nauseating to read.
Some foodies communicate with the rest of the community in a really ugly way, and they don't get a single warning for it. If those same foodies hang out in a thread with two mods from the Foodie section, you automatically start wondering if the mods are protecting them and if they're being objective.
Honestly, Polly, I saw how you handled things with Dlap when she started protesting the contest, and kudos to you. You were a solid moderator and handled all the complaints and dissatisfaction regarding the contest perfectly.
What I’d recommend—and don't think I'm being biased just because I frequent threads with the regulars—is that if you're going to hand out warnings for passive-aggression, then do it fairly across the board, including the foodies. They've produced the most passive-aggressive nonsense I've ever read.
I won't put Dlap on ignore because her advice is genuinely phenomenal, but she also knows how to be incredibly rude to others, and that doesn't get sanctioned (at least, not visibly).
Let me be clear: I'm not saying this so Dlap gets a warning. I'm saying if you're going to moderate fairly, there shouldn't be "protected" people and "unprotected" people. Either everyone who's insulting others gets a warning, or you just admit the Foodie section is a place for bloated egos where insults are allowed.😉

edit: Just to be clear so nobody gets the wrong idea. It’s not just Dlap being difficult, and she isn't the sole reason why the vibe in culinary school is such a mess right now.

🙂

Polly isn't the only moderator on the Foodie board. ☕
Isn't her win in that last "contest" a little bit suspicious? She basically broke one of the main rules—she didn't include a note saying "Reddit" in her photos.

That's a lie.
Yeah, right. If we wanted an excuse for why she gets away with everything, we could just ask "what's the point of the little icon"—half the people on the Foodie board use it because of her posts, but it doesn't matter anyway.

When was the last time you reported someone for being rude and actually got them sanctioned?
When did you even last report anything?

Look, since one of the main points used to kick this whole thing off turned out to be straight-up wrong, and the other one just can't be proven, plus everyone's just throwing around emojis and lazy one-liners instead of actual logic... yeah, there's really no point in doing this.

It's all just going to be a total circus if we keep talking like this.
