What on earth was the logic behind Gumbek being just 3.5 seconds away from Hem before his pit stop, only to end up at 9 seconds after the service?ππ π π π π

The crew was probably double-checking if they tightened all the bolts, so they just took extra time in the pits.π

That is exactly what crossed my mind as well.π π

Hem was actually lapping the field thereβwhen he headed into the pits, wasn't Jenson Button also waiting on him?

That is precisely the situation. LH caught up to the backmarkers just before his pit stop, which is why the gap appeared so narrow.

The guy driving that Ford. Nick Heidfeld When he finally called it quits, he mentioned how that pit stop dragged on way too long, which probably caused some component to overheat. His gut reaction when he caught sight of that wisp of smoke was just to floor it, hoping the wind would blow it out like it had done in the past. But this time, the smoke wouldn't quit, and once he saw the flames creeping toward him, he had to bail. Afterwards There was a Small Explosion which I've not seen before on an F1 Car. This could get interesting... Lewis is on the reds and will likely need to pit, while Jenson Button is on the yellows and should be able to hold out until the end...

Jenson Button in the yellow car is outperforming Hem in the red oneπππ
Heβs smiling because he's looking at a win, though it honestly seems like Red Bull has just become too fast nowπ’

Really hoping Button pulls this one off. Itβd be the perfect gift for his 200th race.π
Things just got messy.π

I find myself wondering why the chemistry department insisted on everyone returning to the ring for another round when it seems highly probable that Gumbek won't have to step up at all.π
