All I want is to buy a decent laser printer. If you don't have anything useful to say that doesn't serve your bottom line, then back off. As for what you said regarding my question about the Best Buy site—absolutely nothing! It seems everyone here is expected to just crawl to you to find the "cheapest" fix.

Just ran a test print on size 4 font and yeah, it's legible. 🙂 You get about 700 pages out of the starter toner.

Well, that’s great news then. I think I'll go take another look at that Brother model too—if I don't pull the trigger on that, I might just grab a Samsung from Best Buy instead. It looks like it'll hit $367 2,200 pages.

I could really use some help here... I've got an Epson Stylus Office BX305F, and every now and then it decides to be temperamental—some letters come out looking super faint, and others don't show up at all. Thanks!

1. You're out of ink
2. Clean the connection point between the cartridge and the printer. You probably have some dried ink buildup acting like dust, blocking the fresh stuff from getting through.

I have two computers networked together, and when I go into Printers and Faxes via the Control Panel on both machines, they show the exact same printer icon. However, I can't print directly from one of them—it forces me to send everything through the other PC first.
Does seeing the icon there mean the printer is actually installed correctly? If not, what steps should I take to fix this?

Officially, you're looking at 4,000 (standard) or maybe up to 6,000 (extended) pages.

But realistically, a standard tray holds about 5 ounces of powder. HP fills theirs with just over 4 ounces, and since 1 ounce gets you roughly 1,000 pages, you do the math.

If you compare that to newer HP printers with similar specs, they only pack in about 2 ounces of powder. Yet, the replacement cartridges cost basically the same.

Honestly, this isn't even news. Just look at today's The New York Times and you'll see stories about how plenty of other big brands are running this exact same playbook.

So, I was wondering... which one of these two is actually the better way to go? Like, if you're looking at value for money, which one makes more sense to pick up?

From what I can tell, there aren't any decent third-party options in this class for around $20. $23

Honestly, if you're looking at those specific requirements, the only smart move is to grab the Ecco refill set.$33 So, I just picked up this new HP Deskjet 1050 == $42. $77.

So, basically... $110 So, I've got about 5 ml, plus three 3 ml bottles, then 20, and another three 10 ml ones of ink.

Usually, you're looking at about 40 ml to hit that 800-page mark.

Honestly, you're probably looking at an Epson from that Hotspot deal, and honestly? That’s your smartest move. Why? Because it just makes sense.

Because that's why... $167 You get 440 ml of ink, and you definitely don't toss the cartridges because they have a built-in resetter. Just do the math on the page count yourself. Everything works like a charm.

With HP, once you've used up that Ecco refill kit, you're basically stuck buying a whole new set of cartridges. It's kind of a pain. $83 + $33 Looking for an Ecco set.

It’s basically the same deal as an HP, just like how you get that same experience with the newer Canons that come with dual trays.
