Mark Wood79 said:Look, I don't follow film criticism closely—certainly not the American scene—but I have noticed that people seem to constantly tear into Pavicic, mostly because of his spoilers, though there are other grievances as well; so, I find myself wondering why you all persistently allow George to ruin movies for you.

There is already a dedicated thread about critics on this forum, so I am somewhat perplexed as to why everyone is so fixated on Pavicic specifically.

I suppose if they truly disliked his critiques, they would simply stop reading them, but if they are fully aware that every single one of his reviews contains spoilers, then I fail to understand why they continue to seek them out. I honestly cannot wrap my head around that logic; they complain about the content while being perfectly aware that, with Pavicic, the spoilers are an inevitable part of the package...

Mark Wood79 said:A good portion of you on this forum seem hell-bent on insisting that Pavicic ruined the movie, claiming—for the hundredth time now—that he completely botched it or that facts are simply foreign concepts to him. And yet, despite all this relentless complaining, you still find yourselves reading his reviews. 🤷

It's the truth. Honestly, it makes you wonder who’s actually the bigger fool here: George or the readers.

Mark Wood12 said:If you set aside the spoilers, this article actually isn't half bad. You can tell some actual effort went into it. I don't see any glaring errors, and it doesn't come across as mindless or primitive. So why does he insist on acting this way every single time?

ha, he even spoiled Kieslowski 🙂

Frank Lee10 said:Then why on earth does anyone bother reading his reviews? I honestly don't get people like that; they complain about it, yet they clearly know there will always be spoilers when it comes to Pavicic...

Who even are you fighting with here?

Imagine your neighbor's house catches fire while they're away at the beach—you either stand on the patio and watch the whole thing burn to the ground, or you call the fire department.

I guess the whole point of this thread is just to warn people, since there's a pretty high chance that reading Pavicic's reviews will completely ruin the movie for them.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who "persistently" read him (while simultaneously cringing). It wouldn't surprise me. For instance, the entire world makes fun of Armond White, yet so many people still follow his work. 🤷 An entire subculture of haters has formed around him; some are just waiting with bated breath to see what the idiot will say next, while others actually use that poor guy's reviews as a sort of cinematic traffic light. Basically, if Armond White gives a movie a thumbs up, there's a decent chance it's actually worth watching.

Something similar is happening with Pavicic; he used to be a decent journalist and critic, but now he's basically become the Jack Sedlar of American film criticism. Setting aside the actual quality of his writing, the guy continues to spoil movies in an incredibly low and rude way—he does it on purpose, quite literally mocking his readers. It's about time the big bosses stepped in and hit him where it hurts (his wallet). Why hasn't Ninoslav Pavic done anything? What about the distributors or the Film Critics Association of America? This behavior is hurting everyone.

Christian Taylor3 said:Who exactly are you even arguing with?

My point is, what is actually the purpose of reading his reviews if everyone already knows they’re just going to be filled with spoilers? I suppose if someone genuinely dislikes his critiques, they might still find themselves scrolling through his work week after week, but if people are fully aware that every single one of his pieces contains spoilers, I struggle to understand why they would insist on wading through all that nonsense.🤷

That’s just how it is, Frank Lee10. His "reviews" are nothing more than a multi-car pileup on the highway. You're trying to look away, but you can't hide from it. 😢

Frank Lee10 said:My point is—why bother reading his reviews at all if everyone knows they’re full of spoilers? Fine, maybe people hate his takes, but they still tune in week after week. If you know every single one of his reviews is going to ruin the plot, why keep putting yourself through his nonsense? 🤷

And why does the outlet keep publishing his garbage?

But I actually want to read film criticism in the papers. I want to watch TV at 8 PM. I want to walk into a grocery store without having any doubts about the quality of the food I'm buying.

Personally, if someone or something keeps letting me down over and over again,😢 I’ll just find somewhere else to go.

I don't get why everyone's getting so worked up over spoilers. So what if he posts them? It's not like it's a crime. The guy's talking about movies and actually making a living off it, which puts him ahead of most people out there. Seems pretty cool to me. If you like reading his stuff, great. If not, just move on.

True enough. If you aren't feeling Big Brother, there's always Bachelor or Chopped to watch instead.

It’d be pretty interesting to let George in on a few things about his private life...

What does that sentence even have to do with anything? I know it’s not about grammar...

I don't really know. I haven't bothered reading the critics lately, mostly because I just don't care enough to give them my time.

Look, I know Big Brother exists, but I have absolutely no clue what those other two shows even are, so I guess I don't really follow what you're getting at.

I'm pretty sure it has everything to do with grammar. Writing isn't exactly my strong suit. My bad to anyone who has to suffer through my posts because my spelling is honestly tragic. I'd say I actually like this critic since he gets paid to write reviews. Seems like a decent gig to me. Plus, I dig his style.
