silentsailor5 said:Barbie, let me clear something up... I've been a moderator for four years now, and during that whole stretch, I've consistently moderated the Jokes section—in fact, Jokes is my primary sub-forum. I think I have a decent handle on how to moderate since I've seen just about everything. Generations of users have come and gone, and you're part of the newest wave, so you don't really know the history here, yet you're daring to suggest I'm not doing my job properly.

If I'm not handing out bans, people complain, and if I start banning again, they complain about that too, so this whole thing feels like a little revolt just to get me off this section so they can install one of their own (and we all know exactly who that would be). I haven't been around constantly lately because I'm handling things on the PDF alone while juggling some real-life responsibilities at the moment.

So, go ahead and tell me, I need to process a potential new moderator for the Jokes section ☕

This isn't some rebellion against you, so please, dial back the paranoia a bit. As for whether you've survived three or four generations of users, I honestly don't know and I'm not interested in debating that. I've been on this Reddit longer than you have; I might not post in the Jokes section as much, but I read it regularly.

Personally, I didn't have an issue with you until that whole incident involving the Countess. That was an overstep and a mistake.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no need to change moderators, but the point of my thread in the County is basically asking you to step up a bit more—to actually sanction the posts that need it when they happen, rather than just handing out bans to those of us who stood up against the Countess and you. The only reason I started this thread is to get the other moderators to pressure you into taking your role a bit more seriously.

And I really hope this new moderator of yours is actually active in the Jokes section.

Since you've decided to weigh in, let me ask you again: Is this post really worth a three-day ban?

http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=3...5&postcount=11

Please let me know.

And please, try to spell my username correctly next time.

Of course not; that’s precisely the issue. She is under the impression that those cards were issued in response to the Prime Minister she sent over to me.

Paul Anderson7 said:Please don't take this as some sort of rebellion against you; I think you might be letting a little paranoia get the better of you. As for whether you've been around for three or four generations now, I really have no opinion on that matter. However, I have been a member of this Reddit community longer than you have. While I may not be quite as active when it comes to posting jokes, I do make it a point to read everything regularly.

Personally, I didn't hold anything against you following that whole incident with the Countess. It was an overstep and quite frankly, a mistake on your part.

As far as I am concerned, there is no need to replace the moderator. My only intention in starting this thread in the County section is to suggest that you become more proactive. You should focus on sanctioning posts that actually require intervention in a timely manner, rather than handing out penalties for trivialities to those of us who previously stood up against Countess and yourself. The sole purpose of this discussion is to encourage the other moderators to apply some pressure so that you might take your responsibilities more seriously and approach your role with the gravity it deserves.

I hope that your new moderator is staying active on Reddit.

Since you’ve already jumped into the conversation, let me ask you again: Do you honestly think this post warrants a three-day ban?

I am quite sorry if my previous comments came across as overly blunt; that was certainly not my intention. I have always believed that being direct is the most efficient way to communicate, but I realize now that it might have seemed dismissive of the nuances involved in this discussion. It is easy to lose sight of the finer details when one is focused on the broader implications of the situation. I will certainly try to be more mindful of how I frame my thoughts moving forward.

Please respond.

Please try to get my username right the second time around.

Please accept my apologies for misspelling the name; I was typing on my phone while away from home. That post certainly warrants a three-day ban, as it clearly violates the rules stated here:

Users on this platform face a three-day ban if they engage in any of the following:
They are insulting the moderators.
Any insults directed toward moderators or any attempts to mock them, regardless of the topic, will result in an immediate three-day ban.

There seems to be an influx of spam occurring within the "Complaint book" thread.
The Complaint book is intended solely for filing grievances regarding specific posts. It is important to emphasize that you shouldn't file a complaint for every single deleted comment; rather, a complaint will only be considered if it is supported by a valid argument. Furthermore, please note that nothing except for formal complaints or relevant comments is permitted within this thread.

If you took a moment to actually study the rules, you might find that every single one of your posts is actually warranted.

It’s at least worth a three-day ban. Honestly, looking at your track record here, I’d personally hand out seven days.

And look, don't take this personally, but a Joke definitely isn't some complex PDF that requires a neuroscientist just to moderate. Sure, they should be treated with the same standard as any other PDF, but does a moderator need a PhD and a deep knowledge of the history of humor from the Stone Age to now? Absolutely not.

If you actually have an issue with how a moderator is doing their job, gather your links and file a formal Complaint book. This isn't that. This is just "I don't like silentsailor5, so let's complain."

It was the last post on the previous page, so I guess that's why nobody's replying. 🤷

ambermason16 said:Za At least. A three-day ban. Honestly, looking at your track record on Reddit, I’d probably give you seven.

Look, don't take this personally, but Jokes definitely aren't the kind of PDFs that require a neurologist on staff just to moderate them. Sure, they deserve the same level of attention as any other file, but honestly, instead of a moderator, what we actually need is some kind of academic expert who’s studied the entire history of humor from the Stone Age to the present day... not.

If you actually have an issue with how a moderator is handling things, go ahead and pull together the links and file a formal complaint. This isn't that. This is just "I don't like silentsailor5, so I'm going to complain about the app."

Look, I don't recall anyone ever saying you need a PhD just to moderate Vice. All I said was that you should probably actually read the PDFs being moderated, nothing more than that.

And what exactly is my reputation on Reddit?čWhat's the word on history?

Anthony Barrett37 said:The last post on the previous page went completely unanswered, so I guess I'll just leave it hanging there. 🤷

Honestly, what's the point? It feels futile most of the time. But I suppose all we really have left is to speak up whenever we run into something unfair, and even if it feels like we're just shouting into the void, we probably ought to keep doing it anyway.

silentsailor5, you’ve got a point there; I clearly didn't wrap my head around the rules after that last update. You're absolutely right—you're basically Amon-Ra, the headmaster of this place, so all my best to you.

Bravo on your mastery of the QWERTY keyboard layout. ☕

Your Reddit history is basically four pages of bans, including one of those 500-point strikes for threatening a moderator... let's all take a wild guess at which one.

Since you brought up the three-day ban, I just wanted to let you know that if it were me, I would have handed you a double dose of discipline.

Whether they want to or not, every time a new strike comes in, the moderator is going to look at the user's track record. They’ll try to mentor a newcomer and move past it if possible. But a serial offender? They’re going to hit them even harder every single time. Especially when the offenses are as serious as yours.

Since you brought up the whole three-day warning thing, I just wanted to mention that if it were up to me, I would have handed you something twice as heavy.

Whether they want to or not, every time a new warning is issued, the moderators look at a user's track record... they might give a newbie a little lesson or try to let it slide, but a serial offender? They're going to hit them harder every single time. Especially when the offenses are as serious as yours.

Yeah, four pages of warnings, about 90% of which were just stupid stuff like spam, and the rest was from arguing with silentsailor5 and Countess. And sure, there was the threat against a moderator. 🤣🤣🤣
Why don't you show us exactly what kind of threat that was? 😂

Eighteen warnings over four years and 4,300 posts. I’m clearly a hardened criminal; they probably should just ship me off to Alcatraz.

After a post like that, you definitely deserve to be a moderator—actually, forget moderator, make them an admin... You don't have any beef with me, and this was clearly aimed my way.

Hehehe, it's just that those particular moderators aren't even worth the bullet. Maybe a baton would settle the misunderstanding.

Me again:

Anthony Barrett37 said:Can I ask one thing since we're talking about PDFs? Any Jokes?
Why was the Chat topic locked? 😕

Then the moderator responds:

It’s not like I’m overly bothered by this or anything, I guess. I’m just pointing out that even in places where they should at least answer questions from users, the moderators don't really do it. 🙂
If this isn't the right place for this, fine, I’ll accept that.
I’m not trying to criticize anyone, I’m just asking nicely, and there hasn't been an answer—good or bad. 🙂

18 bans in 4 years and 4,300 posts. I’m clearly a hardened criminal; they should ship me off to Alcatraz.

Let me correct myself: say maybe 5-7 days, and you'd be a candidate for a parole hearing. As my American brothers would say: You're up to no good. You're one of those users who just gets worse and worse by the day...🙂

I'm not a mod over there, but since you asked for an opinion on Reddit, here it is: silentsailor5 banned you perfectly, and honestly, I would have handed you a much harsher sentence. So, instead of picking fights with silentsailor5 and Countess, try actually coexisting. Try being objective for once, and you'll see that silentsailor5 actually gave you a break.

Anthony Barrett37, I'm sorry. I'm not a mod on that PDF. I have no idea what's actually going on or why my colleagues made that specific call (Chat). But I trust their judgment.

I only stepped in because someone—who clearly thinks this Reddit is their own personal playground and keeps undermining the rules—decided to target silentsailor5 personally. I don't know the specifics of the PDF. 🙂

Just give the mods a little breathing room, and I'm sure they'll get back to you. 🙂

silentsailor5 said:After a post like that, you definitely deserve to be a moderator—actually, scratch that, an admin. I assume you don't have anything against me personally, since this was clearly aimed my way.

I really don't have any ambition to be a moderator or anything of the sort. I’m just not active enough on Reddit for that; some weeks I'll post a lot, and then I might vanish for a few weeks at a time. All I'm looking for is a fair way of doing things and actual communication when it matters. This is honestly the first time we've actually communicated.

And please don't try to play me by claiming you took that as a threat. That "threat" was just a response to the post; it doesn't matter which user it was directed at, considering the whole thread was filled with images meant to poke fun at someone, all in good spirits. Besides, I didn't even mention anyone by their username.

@ambermason16, I respect how long you've been hanging around Reddit, but you don't know the first thing about me, so you aren't really in a position to judge whether I'll be a better or worse user. I've never had any issues before, and arguing isn't really my style; if anything, I regret even getting involved here. It’s hard to get a word in edgewise sometimes, but once I decide to bite, I guess I'm going to see the whole thing through.

@Anthony Barrett37, that's exactly it. It's just a lack of communication. And honestly, that Chat thread wasn't really something that needed to be shut down. Sure, there were only five of us in it, but still.😛

Paul Anderson7 said:@ambermason16/">@@ambermason16 look, I respect your long history on Reddit, but you don't know a damn thing about me. You have zero right to comment on whether I’ll be a better or worse user here. I’ve never had issues before, and fighting isn't my style. Honestly, I regret even joining this place because it’s impossible to have a real discussion without someone losing their mind. But once I bite, I finish the meal.

As for me, I respect you as a person, but your file speaks for itself. Everything you just typed flies in the face of what's actually in your profile. That's why I would never take you seriously. And that's exactly why I’d hand out a harsher penalty than anyone else. It's nothing personal—it's not like I dislike you or have some vendetta against you. It's just that your last few years show a very clear pattern... and that pattern is basically "screw the rules, I do whatever I want."

silentsailor5 gave you three days. Personally, I’d give you seven, and the next time you slip up, I’d be asking for a partial ban. Again, nothing personal. So, instead of attacking him—which is totally uncalled for—just be glad silentsailor5 is the one in charge of that PDF.

Anthony Barrett37, the Chat isn't really a format that fits the vibe of this Reddit
I mean, there are plenty of dedicated chat services out there, and even here we have specific sub-forums designed specifically for more relaxed moderation where people can actually hang out and talk
Ultimately, the moderators decide where chat threads are allowed, and if people start using them in a malicious way, it’s pretty obvious that they'll just shut the whole thing down

I was honestly just wondering why it was closed, but I guess I still haven't gotten an actual answer. 😁

I’ve got no clue what percentage of these subforums actually have active chats going on, but I do know for a fact that half of them get shut down the second things start getting messy or people start acting out
Beyond that, there’s just no way this forum can thrive if it keeps being shaped by that same small circle of five or six—maybe nineteen, if you’re counting the regulars—who spend every single day just greeting each other, saying hi, and basically throwing virtual toasts back and forth

The chat functioned quite well for a period, primarily because the level of discourse remained civil. Eventually, however, the Teens began migrating down to the main chat specifically to provoke me, which ultimately forced my hand to shut it down. This was largely due to your behavior; you were being blatantly biased toward the Teens and constantly making jokes at the expense of others. I simply won't tolerate that kind of atmosphere.

I suggest you head over to the subforums or find a dedicated chat service elsewhere, as I have no intention of reopening this one anytime soon.

Yeah, I mean, I only showed up to VIC because of you. 🙄
Honestly, I spend all day thinking about you... just how to mess with you or get under your skin. 🙄
I was just bored, so I started posting there, but you shut that down fast. Whatever, man. I just wanted to know why, since I didn't see any real reason.

hollowtrucker77 said:
besides, the forum just doesn't really vibe with the way the same 5 or 6 people just say hi and cheers to each other every single day.

Every single chat thread on this forum basically boils down to that, so none of them ever got closed for that specific reason.

It's fine. I'll try posting in a new one. Hopefully, you won't close that one too. 🙏
