Hey everyone. I’ve got this weird issue with my printer—well, weird for me, anyway. Ever since there was a power outage, it won't recognize either the black or the color ink. Everything was working perfectly fine before the outage, too. I tried following some stuff I found online; I thought maybe if I pulled the cartridges out, unplugged the thing, then plugged it back in and popped the cartridges back in, it might reset. But nope. Nothing. It’s still giving me that error message 🤷
What should I do? My model is a Canon PIXMA

How long did you leave the printer unplugged? Usually, you want to give it at least 5 minutes to really clear out—just to be safe. Also, is there a specific error light blinking on the unit itself, or is the software giving you some kind of headache?

Try to Canon PIXMA extract Canon 21 and just leave the Canon 22 in there. See if that works.

If that doesn't fix it, you'll probably need to grab a new Canon 22 and then try the whole process again using your old Canon 21. If that still fails, you're looking at buying a new Canon 21. Basically, this whole headache is going to cost you at least $50 right off the bat. Honestly, you might end up needing a whole new printer plus wasting $50 on a new Canon 22 cartridge.

Alternatively, if you take it down to the Best Buy service center, they can usually run those tests for free. That way, you don't have to waste money on a new Canon 22 just to test things out. And hey, if you aren't feeling that specific shop, just find another local repair place you actually like.

rustysurfer79, I gave it a shot like you suggested. So, yeah, it works fine without the Canon 21, but as soon as I pop the Canon 21 back in, that same error pops up again. I guess I just need to go out and buy some new black ink (the original stuff)? That should fix everything, right? Maybe?

Exactly.
