Raymond Moore17 said:Well, my family and I already caught Microsporia from our cat, and now it’s spread to the dog. I’m reaching my breaking point. We’ve been making slow but steady progress using Lamisil, but now there's this issue with the dog. He has a large scab on his leg that I peeled off, leaving a circular mark behind. I’m fairly certain it’s Microsporia, so I’m going to treat it as such to prevent it from spreading, even though I’ve already washed him twice with Ketoconazole as a precaution. So, what's the move? Should I go back to Ketoconazole and then apply Plymicol 2?

Maybe ask a vet about the pets since we're talking about a dog? 🙂

Hey there.

So, my habit of picking up random junk off the ground finally caught up with me—both me and my pet are in a bad way now. 😢

I've been trying to track the progress with Ketoconazole, but the lesions just keep popping up. I'm sitting at nine right now!!! 😲

Does anyone have advice on a more effective treatment? Pills, injections... anything?

I heard sunlight kills it off—would it be a smart move to go hit a tanning bed?

Greetings. My nine-year-old son has come down with Microsporia. We don't even own a pet here; he was just playing around with the neighbor's dog. So far, I've been applying Plymicol 2, but it doesn't seem to be doing much, and now these spots are spreading almost everywhere—mostly his stomach and back, with some on his arms and legs too.
Is there a risk of the rest of us catching this?
I've been tossing his bath towels straight into the dirty laundry pile, and I make sure to swap out his sleeping shirts every other day.
How often should I be changing the bed linens?
Will running everything through a standard washing machine kill off the fungus?

I see people talking about disinfecting their entire house; is that necessary because of the dogs, or should I be doing that as well?

I used Plymicol 2 for two weeks first, then switched to Lamisil in the morning plus Plymicol at night. I was also supposed to take potassium permanganate baths, but I just used diluted potassium permanganate as compresses on the infected areas instead. I changed my clothes every single day—any clothes I wore, including pajamas. I swapped out pillowcases every day since I had a spot on my face, but I didn't bother with sheets because I slept in long pajama pants and didn't touch the spots or the bedding directly, so there wasn't much point in daily sheet changes besides the pillowcases. I washed everything at the highest temperature possible for those fabrics, dried them in the sun to let the UV rays kill anything left, and ironed everything on high heat.
I disinfected the house because of my cat and for my own sake.

Frank Booth9 thanks.
We can't use Lamisil because he’s just too small, and those spots are right on his belly, for crying out loud. I've been washing his colorful clothes at 140 degrees and the whites at 203. Since we haven't seen any sunlight lately, everything is just sitting in the dryer.
This is already the third week of this nightmare, and I'm heading back to the vet today.

I’ve taken every precaution imaginable—really, I have—but the constant appearance of new spots is becoming a real issue. The latest one popped up on my stomach, quite a distance from the original cluster. I suppose I just don't know how to stop this spread.
Everything is being disinfected; I'm washing all the bedding and clothes constantly. Even the cat is on treatment, though we aren't applying anything topically to her right now.
What else is there to do?

Should tea tree oil be applied directly to the skin, or should it be diluted? And is it safe for children?
Has anyone here tried using calendula ointment?
