Everything in English, please—my head is actually throbbing from trying to make sense of these translations 😁

A buddy of mine is running macOS with the language set to German, and frankly, he’s completely lost—he can't make heads or tails of the interface. He’s looking to switch everything over to English or maybe American English. Is there a way to pull this off through the system settings without having to go through the whole headache of a full OS reinstallation?

Which version of macOS are we talking about here?

Seriously, this guy? He can't even figure out how to install a game because he's looking for an American interface... 😁

I'm actually not entirely certain at this moment—could be Windows XP or maybe 7. Walk me through how this works.

You can basically swap the language on any version just by running an update

but for Windows XP, you're gonna have to go ahead and install a language pack.

A friend of mine mentioned he's still running Windows 7—honestly, I'm surprised his system hasn't given up the ghost yet. Could you provide some more specific instructions on how one might go about translating it, say, into English via an update?

Look, you just hit up macOS update and then look for where it says "optional updates are available"

If it were in German, it’d probably read something like
''optionale Updates sind verfügbar''

Find the English language pack, check the box, and run the update. Once it's done, just flip the language setting to English in the settings menu and you're golden. Simple enough, right?

Though, if they're running some sketchy, pirated version of macOS, maybe uncheck "important update" first... just a thought.😉

Since most of this reply is basically targeting that first page—and I'm not about to sit here and quote every single line one by one—I'll just throw some thoughts out there:

So, I’m running Windows 7 and I installed it in English, but since everyone I know uses the American version, I’m constantly flipping the language settings back and forth from English to American
Honestly, half the time I can't even follow what people are saying, though maybe it's just me and not everyone else:

With the American setup, there’s still a ton of stuff that feels totally unfinished, especially when I try to get the speech recognition working—it just flat-out refuses to work in American. But hey, you get used to it eventually; now I can navigate both English and American without breaking a sweat, whereas before I was totally lost.🙂
