What's the scariest jump scare in horror history?

Phobia - the first segment (the one with the girl and the cell phone), toward the end. Possibly the greatest jump scare ever put to film.

The Thing (Carpenter's) - specifically the blood test scene and the defibrillator sequence.

A Tale of Two Sisters - there's something under the sink.😱

Shutter (the original) - most of the movie qualifies, though the opening stands out when the protagonist catches "something unusual" through the camera lens for just a split second.

The Eye (the original) - the scene where the ghost suddenly appears with the scream "sitting on my chair".

Ju-on: The Grudge 2 (the Japanese sequel) - a solid portion of the film.

The Descent - the accident at the start, then one intense jump scare after the protagonist wakes up in the middle of the night. And, of course, "the scene" in the cave.

Dog Soldiers - the "cow from the sky."😁

REC - this film is absolutely loaded with jump scares; it's difficult to single just one out.

In the movie Event Horizon, they finally locate the ship they’ve been hunting for, only to stumble upon this incomprehensible footage left behind by the previous crew.
Once they manage to clean up the recording, everyone gathers around, eager to see what those poor souls actually captured.
But the second they hit play, the screen explodes into this sudden, frantic chaos—people tearing at one another, screaming, blood spraying everywhere—and there's even this one guy just holding someone else's eyeballs in his hands. It all happens in about ten seconds, if my memory serves me right.
I don't think I'll ever be able to shake that jump scare.😲

Just watched this and honestly, I was pretty shaken up. 🤦

I tend to jump around different movies at the theater, so it’s hard to pin down one specific moment—there are just way too many to choose from. 🙈

Repulsion—when that guy suddenly pops up right after Carola closes the mirror cabinet, I almost had a heart attack. That scene totally caught me off guard. 😱 😍 🙏

Shutter — there’s that moment where he’s staring at a freshly developed photo in the darkroom, spotting that shadow, only for it to suddenly snap its profile toward me😱 😁

REC — when he opens those attic doors and the cop starts scanning the rafters with the camera, right before that kid jumps out at him😁
- when they show little > and the cop moves in to give her an injection, only for her to lunge and grab him by the throat🤣

Oh yeah, I totally jumped on this one. Definitely one of the best cinematic moments. 😱

Besides that, there's that part in drag me to Hell where she wakes up and turns around, and then the old woman is right next to her and flies out of her... super weird. 😲

The whole original movie is absolutely terrifying to me, but if I had to pick the most bone-chilling moments, it’s gotta be that intense sequence on the stairs and the one with the drawers.

You really ought to take a look at drag me to Hell; the entire film is practically saturated with sequences of that nature. One of the most intense moments has to be when the old woman is sitting in the car with her.

Three scenes that actually gave me the chills and left me feeling physically uneasy:

1. The final scene from Shutter

2. The final scene from The Ring

The Ring spoiler alert!

3. Ju-on: The Curse (2000) - Toshiev's old man kills the teacher's wife, rips the fetus out of her womb, stuffs it in a bag, and then slams it against walls and kicks it across the floor🙂

And one scene that caught me completely off guard and genuinely stressed me out:

Ju-on: The Grudge 2 - Some guy is driving his car, looks down toward the pedals, and sees who you think he'll see🙂

Someone mentioned "Drag Me to Hell," and honestly, that one is just packed with those unsettling scenes—that old lady is absolutely revolting...
I’ve watched quite a few horror movies, and while I can't recall a specific moment right now, I suppose I find it most jarring when a spirit drifts through a house, leaving that freezing chill behind... you know? And then there's when their head turns toward you while their body stays facing the other way... it feels almost like something that could happen in real life, like if someone wandered through my home uninvited! It really gets under my skin, I guess.
